You realise the superiors you’ve always been loyal to are going to use you as an expendable scapegoat. How do you react?

Should anyone care to trace the signal, they’ll find it’s coming from a terminal within the main Nexus area…

*The Hunter types on one of the terminals scattered about, making little effort to hide location or identity.*

[Make preparations for a quick, safe exit. If possible arrange things to make it appear either that you died, or that your superiors' attempt to lay blame is just that. Have several cover identities and safe-houses waiting.]

You're well-prepared. I can't say I'd be so ready to make my escape.

A pause. Unfortunately.

[How soon do you believe your superiors intend to implement their plan? If there is time, there may be some preparations you can still make.]

I appreciate the sentiment, but even if I was the type to desert, it's practically impossible.

Starscream wanders over there. "I died. But then when I came back I ditched him and made his life the very pit."

She'd half expected this. Telrim keeps her glare fixed firmly on the screen. "Yes, that sounds like the sort of approach I'd expect from you."

The Controller's clearly in a mood. She's lounging in her chair, feet up on the console just clear of the keys, and although se's speaking civilly, so far, she's making no attempt at the cool, controlled tone she maintains during negotiation sessions.

"I'd served him faithfully from my very creation, and was repaid nine million years of service with vaporization." The little femme shrugs, undisturbed by the other's tone and actions. "Now he's dead, I live, and my people prosper."

"Luckily not everyone follows your example. And most of the dead stay that way."

( Still loled)

Chris frowns remembering that all too well she looks at one of the random terminals before typing in her response.

[ Live, survive and then do everything you can to rip the bastard a new one. ]

You'd consider your ties broken at that point, I take it.

Kurama isn't far from the main Nexus area, working on his laptop, and the message pops up on his screen. He's not particularly worried, since his computer is well-protected, and this sort of thing does happen in the Nexus.

At one time I would have placed my well-being before anything, and anyone, else. My only loyalty was to myself, and such a situation would have been unacceptable. I would have found a way to escape it.

Now I suppose I can understand why one would stay, regardless of whether or not such an end was inevitable, but my own loyalties are far more... specific, one might say.

Specific in terms of the conditions they hold true under, or the people they're towards?

The latter. That unconditional loyalty that I had to myself has been extended. He won't specify any further than that, not even anonymously, for a stranger.

I take it that you don't see this as an act of betrayal?

It's not unexpected. I've served my people long enough to know how the system works. It's the logical course of action, and they're justified in taking it...

I still resent it. I never deluded myself that I was essential in the grand scheme of things, but this is... not how I would prefer to die. Even if I wanted to.

I ran away and found a better Master to serve.

And would you die for that one?

kage_himoto January 4 2009, 22:06:11 UTC
*softly* I would have. He died. I serve no one but my Mates, Casciel and Hyou, now.

So if your second master had needed to use you as a scapegoat, you would have stayed?
