Let me give you a hypothetical situation:
Say, for instance, that there is a woman in your life, and that you have, shall we say, feelings for this woman. This is, I should think, a common enough occurrence. Now, obviously you would like to end up with this woman in some, let us presume, romantic fashion.
Let us suppose, however, that she does not share your feelings.
If, then, you do end up romantically entangled with one another, we could argue that you did, in fact, have control over your life; but did she hers? And, contrarily, if you do not end up together, how do you rationalize the belief that you are in control of your life when such a presumably significant event in its course goes so dramatically against your wishes and your will?

Have you met my petfriend Schuldig? I think he'd find you quite charming.

I suppose not, if you don't think you have any control. If you're in control, well . . . whole possible time-lines are erased every time you make any decision, so, I'd say yes, it probably does matter a bit.
