A small hole appears in the Nexus. One small enough no human could fit through it. And yet, within moments, two forearms appear, sticking out in odd angles. They help push a person through the remainder of the hole. The man lands in a heap ( Read more... )

"I don't have any parents to disapoint, and I haven't been a mother long enough to manage it. And I think hospitals want to make sure you don't get too comfortable. That's why they give you sleeping pills, then send a nurse around every two hours to wake you up."

"Oh, I am truly sorry you do not have any parents. But, that is true about hospitals. I assume they do these things so that they might keep you longer, extracting more money from you. During my stay I feared the food would keep me bedridden for weeks longer than I needed."

"Thank you." The lack doesn't seem to upset her though. "I try to avoid hospitals, myself. And I like to think if I were ever forced to spend time in one, my husband would sneak food in for me."

"Ah, yes. That is a very intelligent idea. I shall have to remember that the next time I stay in one."

She watched him with undisguised fascination. He reminded her of an old deck of cards.

"A PINpoint'll getcha s'mewhere else, if'n you know th' coordinates."

"Yep."

She tilted her head to the side. "Consistently. Always always."

"So you wanna get better sooner."

"A PINpoint? Where might I find one of these devices?"

"Oh, were you not born with a wonderful, beautiful gift, as well?"

"I can hardly see how hospital food that tastes horrible could get you better faster."

She nodded to the sign. "They're under there."

"No. I just ain't good 'nough."

"It'll make y' wanna get out sooner so you don't needta eat it anymore, yeah? Half of gettin' better is in th' mind."

He cocks his head. "But you seem good enough in my opinion. I do not understand parents sometimes. I spent years to obtain this wonderful gift so that I might be like my father and brother, and yet they hate me all the more."

"Indeed, you do need to get better mentally before you can physically. Though more times than not, your body heals faster than your mind."

"What is a dessert gelatin?"

"Oh! It is a wonderful, wobbly, wiggly, shimmying dessert made from a mold. It can come in many wonderful shapes and flavors. I do think it is made of animal hooves, or was at one point in time. Though you can never tell by the taste. Many people even put fruit or marshmallows in theirs. Have you never had such a dessert?"

"They make it out of hooves?" Her hand flies to her mouth. "I think that I am glad I have not had this gelatin."

"Oh no my dear, I do not think they make gelatin like that anymore! I am certain technology has advanced enough that they don't need to be so barbaric towards animals."

"Well that is interesting. A talking snake. How is that possible? And yes, most parents would tell you if you were a disapointment. Mine most certainly did."

((Why thank you))

"Though you are not from my world, I would enjoy being your friend or companion. That way i might learn more beautiful ways of contorting my body like all snakes do."

The fact that my father was undoubtedly disappointed in me does not automatically make me a disappointment. *the tone is sardonic, and there is no attempt to answer the gelatin question*
