*With an expression quite clearly telling any would-be comedians that suggestions involving body cavities or other charming invective will be met with severe scorn and possibly dire retribution, the captain leans up against a convenient Nexus wall and says*

What should I do with this?

"Oh!" She searched in her purse and pulled out an identical jump drive. "I've got one just like it. 'S to put in a computer an' save files. So you can carry your work with you."

"'Cause smokin' breaks your lungs. If'n you think 'bout it, you're lightin' somethin' on fire an' inhalin' the fumes. Not natural."

*He holds out his hand to examine Victor's drive and yes, it is practically identical*

How do I tell if it contains files, as you say?

*the comment about "not natural" makes him frown*

Define natural. It is natural for things to burn, it is natural for things to breathe, is it not?

Victor didn't know too much about technology, so she struggled to find the proper words. "There's a spot in the computer, an' you place that there an' then open a button on th' monitor...I could show you?"

She shrugged. "But if'n people breathe too much smoke, they get sick. Their bodies reject it. It ain't anyone's place t' tell you what t' do. They might just be concerned t' see if you knew."

Miss Choovanski gave me a ... *he pauses* ...laptop? Does this function as a computer? She did show me how to open it...

*...but we then proceeded to get so drunk we both passed out, he doesn't add*

I somehow doubt people tell me to stop smoking out of concern for my health.

*Conserving his health isn't something most people who encounter the captain seem interested in, oddly*

*he nods, and turns the little cylinder of metal in his hand*

Thankyou, Kaa. Would you say that it is valuable?

*he gives due consideration to the comment about the smell*

So this is why they tell me to stop? Simply because it inconveniences them? *he doesn't sound as if this argument is going to hold a lot of weight with him*

*This makes a lot of sense: he knows just how valuable knowledge and information can be*

Indeed? *he doesn't seem unduly concerned* Which varieties?

That's... some computer thing. I think other people know what it is because it isn't like a computer thing where I'm from.
And it's because it smells nasty and funny and it makes you cough and it isn't good for you.

Hmm. *He is going to have to investigate computers further, obviously* Thankyou.

I take it you do not smoke yourself?

It's okay!

And no, I don't, I've never tried it and I don't think I want to.

*Something about the tone of this last comment makes the pirate frown*

Am I to gather there is some form of stigma attached to tobacco in this world? *he pauses* Or is it simply that you cannot afford it?

For question number one, have you got a computer? And for number two, the ingredient list for cigars and whatnot kinda speaks for itself. Bad mojo workin'.

I have been given a laptop.

*Never mind that he hasn't the first idea how to use it.*

That's a little extra, external storage for it. You take the cap off and plug it into the port it fits, and you're all set.

*There's a brief flicker of confusion in his eyes over the word "port", but he nods shortly*

Thankyou. I am confident it cannot be too taxing a task.

I believe it's a form of storage device for computer data. And perhaps they find the smoking unattractive?

*Unattractive? That's a new answer, and one which actually has half a chance of getting through to the man's vanity*

And what is your personal view on the subject?

*shrugs slightly* Expeling fumes from the mouth, for my kind, usually means something is very wrong with your inner mechanisms and you should see a medic immediatly. I doubt the connotation is the same.

But considering some of the strange things that Decepticons do, I'm rather impartial on it.
