*With an expression quite clearly telling any would-be comedians that suggestions involving body cavities or other charming invective will be met with severe scorn and possibly dire retribution, the captain leans up against a convenient Nexus wall and says*

What should I do with this?

That's... some computer thing. I think other people know what it is because it isn't like a computer thing where I'm from.
And it's because it smells nasty and funny and it makes you cough and it isn't good for you.

It's okay!

And no, I don't, I've never tried it and I don't think I want to.

*Something about the tone of this last comment makes the pirate frown*

Am I to gather there is some form of stigma attached to tobacco in this world? *he pauses* Or is it simply that you cannot afford it?

*pauses for a moment* I don't know what a 'stigma' is but... It is something that isn't liked unless you actually do it. I know a few people who do but not many, because it's not thought of as a good thing. And it is expensive too, yes.

*the captain's sardonic drawl slips briefly into "teaching" tone*

Stigma. If there is a stigma attached to an act, it means that it is marked as infmaous or disgraceful, and that the person who carries out such an act is likewise worthy of reproach.

If it is expensive, surely it is a mark of status for those who can afford it?

Oh, I get it! And it is maybe a little bit of that kind of thing, though I think it is more people don't like being smoked around, than they don't like the people who do it.
And I don't think it's any kind of status thing.
