30 day football challenge: day seventeen

Day 17 - Name a transfer that has broken your heart.

Abidal ... should go without saying. That was spectacularly shitty on their part, all the more for the fact broadly speaking Barca don't habitually treat people like that. All those promises for nothing. It makes absolutely no sense.
Admittedly I was taking a pragmatic view, right up until that fell through as well. I mean if we had replaced him with someone younger/healthier/whatever that would make it look sensible. But they haven't. So how many players do we currently have that want to play in defence, and had more than five minutes in the big boy squad, and all their joints are intact ... none.
And if that whole mess doesn't bother you, then you're probably a madridista.

Alex Oxlaide Chamberlain to Arsenal, took that one way too personally. We made him and he was such a star, but apparently none of that was good enough; better to be a bench warmer in the premier league than starting each week in championship (we got promoted the next season). He honestly has done incredibly well, and I’m happy for him getting called up for England that chance to shine when he’s young enough to get a good run of it. People talk about him at this stage and I just feel genuine pride like he’s an actual family member. But yeah I miss him.

Torres from Liverpool to Chelsea hurt my heart too; I didn’t even follow premier league, have no investment in those clubs and it makes no difference either way because he’s still scoring against Saints. It’s just the fact Liverpool gave him such a rubbish deal, and yet he still speaks about them with such fondness and nostalgia. I have very similar feelings about Xabi obviously, because it was to the evil-empire, but really just him and Stevie G need to get back together.

I also still have too many feelings about Diego Lopez being signed for Real Madrid. Why does anyone ever need four goalkeepers anyway? Then Mou because of his inherent Mou-nature started spouting all this crap about it that was clearly a dig at Casillas, with the ‘fans’ chiming in too, a complete slap in the face after everything he has done for club and country. It was just spiteful, illogical, and pointless. Which being fair also puts Lopez in a horrible bind. Admittedly yes I’m also not majorly impressed that if Mou really wanted another keeper he couldn’t have found one a bit better looking. It’s not as if I watch as Barca fuck up a set piece for the eightieth time for the benefit of my health; but as I have to then someone should sweeten the deal.
