Part of the curse was broken. Elisabeth had been faithful and waited for him after ten years. Will was able to set foot on land more than every ten years, though it had taken a few years before they learned that. If there hadn't been an accident where Will had to come onto dry land they would have never known. Will could have gone onto land for good but as he would hate for someone else to be bound to the Flying Dutchman he did not want to leave his duty. He didn't want it to go the way it had done with Davey Jones.
It was Christmas once more, and Elisabeth and William, their son, had come to celebrate Christmas on the ship. William did not think it was the most fun thing to do, even if he liked seeing his father. He had recently noticed girls and there was especially one he had become close to.
Elisabeth was disappointed in her son, but happy to be on the Dutchman. Will tried to reassure her that he understood them both and that if young William would rather spend time on shore in the future they would let him.
After three days Will decided to take them home, but there were always things that never went as planned.
Will had felt the ship stop, but wasn't overly concerned as they often picked up people to ferry. He got a little worried when he heard his crew rushing back and forth and it sounded like they were trying to stop someone.
Before he had managed to get out of bed the cabin door flew open, smashing against the wall. A person stumbled in, falling over his feet. A hat came flying which Will caught and he recognized it. There could only be one person wearing that hat and, sure enough, there was one very drunk pirate lying on the floor.
Will made sure that Elizabeth was covered before quickly pulling on his trousers. He went to where their friend Jack Sparrow was sprawled. Seeing he looked to be out Will turned to see if there was any water nearby. Finding a bucket filled with water Will took out the scoop and just upended the bucket over Jack's head.
Smiling, Will looked down as Jack rolled over onto his back.
"What do you mean by celebrating Christmas without inviting me?" Jack spoke thickly.
"If you have been wasted the whole holiday, you know the answer. Someone should keep the rum away from you."
"Better drink it than…" he looked around from his position, "than Elisabeth burn it. Where is your Mrs?"
"You are incorrigible, Jack Sparrow."
"Captain Jack Sparrow."
Will helped his friend up and took him out from their cabin. He waved the crew away, and continued with Jack up to the deck. In the dawn he saw how Jack looked, and it was the worst he had ever seen him.
"What the hell happened with your clothes?" Will asked.
"It's all I have," Jack said. "It's good to see you Will," the pirate continued as he hugged Will.
The air didn't seem to sober Jack up so Will made sure one of the boys fixed a bed so the pirate could sleep it off. Having put his friend in it, Will went to talk to the men that had brought Jack on board. They showed him the rowing-boat and all it held were a couple of empty rum bottles, Jack's compass, a map and a bag that didn't have room for any clothes. What was in it looked like worthless trinkets, but knowing it was Jack's Will had no hope of guessing where it might lead to.
He thought it was best to let Jack sleep and then choose some of his own clothes for the pirate to wear. Will smiled again and could already hear what Jack would call them - a malfunctioned wardrobe.
Will returned to Elisabeth, who moved as he lay down beside her.
"What happened?" her sleepy voice asked him.
"Captain Jack Sparrow. It looks like you and William won't go home just yet. I could bet my sword that Jack wants us on another adventure."
Elisabeth woke up properly and looked at Will. "Where is he?"
"We put him in a bed to sleep off the rum. He was drunk as… you know him. Why don't we try to get some more sleep before this really starts?"
"Hhum, or we could…" Elisabeth started to say, but then silenced herself by kissing Will and letting her hand creep down his body.
