SUPER EXCITED: I'm planning an actual vacation this summer! Ever since my encounter with The Trial and how my life and schedule were held hostage by it for months and months in advance, I'm trying to take advantage of not having any trials looming and actually use my vacation time. The BF is turning 30 this July, and we're going to celebrate by taking a week off to do a driving trip up to Vermont and Maine. I've never been anywhere in New England besides Boston (where I spent a total of 3 days in 2005), so this is all unexplored territory to me. Even just seeing the terrain will be exciting! We're going to alternate camping and hotels, and will be spending the longest chunk of time on the Maine coast. I still need to figure out a place to camp in either western MA or western CT, so if anyone has suggestions I'd love to hear them.
The farthest north we're going will be Acadia National Park, and from there I think there's a ferry to Nova Scotia which totally tempts me because I would love, love, love to see the Canadian maritime provinces and SEE the land of Anne of Green Gables, but that will have to be another trip.
Update on the cable question (which, yes, I realize is fascinating): we ditched the old provider and decided to get both internet AND CABLE from another company. When I was home sick over Memorial Day weekend, I consumed a LOT of telly (mostly Doctor Who and Merlin eps I'd saved on the DVR and BBC America's Star Trek: The Next Generation marathon (which, sorry to abuse parentheses, cracks me up that the BBC channel spends so much of its time broadcasting an American show)) and realized I need the channel surfing that having TV, rather than just Netflix, allows. I'd never have watched all those old TNG episodes that weekend because I'd never have ordered them from Netflix, but it was fun to re-live this show I was totally obsessed with in middle school and high school. Also, interesting observation: TNG is not as awesome as I remember... Some of the acting and writing are embarassingly poor. Thank goodness Patrick Stewart was there to drag it up a level... I think the series was just a little spotty; some episodes were great and others awful (amusingly so, actually).
Anyway, we now have the New Cable, which is a little overwhelming because there are hundreds of channels, and sadly means that I lost everything on the old DVR so now I have to start over again with my shows. Alas!
