House @ Dempsey saw a Flea Market. The young people thronging the area, were like.......fleas? So many flying around.
My aunts, sis and Alma rented 2 stalls. When I visited them, with mm in tow, it was hot, and hand held fans were the hottest accessories of the moment. Next to their booth, a man called Mike, was selling new graphic tees for $12 a piece and slippers for $5 a pair. He manned the store himself, and complained about the $18 sandwich he bought for his 5pm lunch. His brother sells roasted pigs and he will also be at the Katong Flea next Sunday. I know all these because family made friends with him towards the end of the day.
And their fascination with my headphones necklace got me a $3 gift from the flea market. A microphone necklace.
From the little aunt Rachel told me about how this purchase came about, the conversation between aunt Rachel and sis Christine must have somewhat flowed like this:
R: eh, let's get chei the headphones tee (from Mike). Like her headphone necklace. Very cute leh.
C: no no no, you give me $3, I go and get something even more suitable. (smug look)
R: ....... (R looks skeptical, but still hands over the $3)
C strolls off chuckling, flicking her long brown hair, into the great unwashed. Several minutes later, she emerges with her hands behind her back. Smug look returns.
R: what is it.....show me leh.....
C laughs cheekily and opened her palm. The shiny metal microphone necklace lies in the center of her pale palm. C chuckles again, knowing she has won this round. R laughs heartily and picks up the microphone necklace. Her other hand starts slapping C's arm whilst she laughs continuously, a habit of hers.
R: oh ya ya ya yaaaaaaa, this is VERY suitable!!!
Charming.
