Meme

Because the thing that makes sense when I'm swamped with plotbunnies and schoolwork is to hop on the bandwagon and post a writing meme. Right? Right.

Never Will I Ever meme: Name three fics you think I will never, ever, ever write. In return, I will attempt to write a snippet of one of them.(And by the way, you people who told me I need to write ( Read more... )

OMG! How did I never see this amazing, chilling thing that an awful, demented part of me wants to see the rest of?

I just came here to say Happy Birthday and instead, it was I who got the gift! In fact, I'm not sure how I never saw any of this stuff on the post. It's all old, yet I'm not sure I've ever read any of it. My bad. But it's like when you lose 20 bucks in a coat pocket for six months and then you pull that coat out again and it's like found treasure. I'm going to totally read these now.

Ahem. The point of this was to come say HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!

I hope you had balloons and pressies and little frosting flowers on tasty things. Here, have a fic comment as my gift:

Okay, first of all:
Gaeta had saved his life. He owed him this much.

This both killed me and made my shippery side aflutter, that Gaius would be motivated by that. He does tend to get kind of woobie when people save him. (And it's happened a lot, come to think of it.) But still ... you can tell that Gaius is working from a position of confidence that he is not in danger himself yet, and I'd fear for how he'd behave if Cain started making accusations at him about being too close to the Cylon to be trusted.

The following paragraph, when Gaeta looks at the photograph of himself and just goes pale, oh, Felix. That hurt. As did the thought that Baltar's like, "Okay, this is the only way we can save you," and you just know Gaeta is not going to be able to give him anything to appease Cain. Gah.

The bit in the CIC was really well paced, with Adama and Tigh all bewildered for that long moment, when the Pegasus crew won't listen to them and they just keep their guns trained on Gaeta, and the three of them just don't get it at all, when really, what else would it be about Gaeta besides he's a Cylon for them to act like that? Yet, of course, it's incomprehensible to them that he would be.

As the reader, you know what's going to happen, and yet, you're sitting there with baited breath, just waiting for the shoe to drop and for poor Gaeta to get it, finally. Ugh. Just really well done.

I really like all the logical speculations you have the characters make, like Gaeta telling himself he couldn't be a Cylon because he had fought them, yet remembering that the Cylon virus got through his firewall, so maybe. And then also Gaius' wondering idly if Shelley Godfrey and Felix had been working together all along with that photo. He would totally connect those dots and vaguely wonder, then dismiss it, because whatever else he thinks of Felix, he has always thought him to be a good person and incapable of that kind of subterfuge.

Finally, I was so left wondering about (but totally refusing to picture) CylonPrisoner!Gaeta broken in the brig on Pegasus. In your mind, did his story follow Gina's exactly?

This was so good. I'll be back. I hope you see this. And once again: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I hope you are doing okay.

Oh my goodness! This is a pleasant birthday surprise! Comments on years-old ficlets! Thank you!

This is probably my favorite of this batch, so I'm glad it made you happy all this time later! And honestly, I would also like to see where this goes, but I am terrible at sustaining a long plot, which is what this would really deserve. There's a reason it's a Never Would I Ever prompt. Which is really sad, because if someone else had written it, I would read the shit out of it.

(Though all those questions you had about how far Gaius would actually go to protect Gaeta if it meant putting himself at risk crossed my mind as I was writing it, and I was pretty relieved I wouldn't actually have to get into it :P)

As far as Pegasus!Felix, it's been a while, but I'm pretty sure my thought process was that his story would have been fairly different from Gina's. I don't remember if I ever decided if that particular Cylon had a similar job to Gaeta, but in my mind he was in the military, actively knowing he was a Cylon. His mission was the same as Gina's, but the path he took to accomplish it was different. He wouldn't have been Cain's lover, but she would have worked with him long enough to trust him and feel totally betrayed. And as far as his time as a prisoner... yeah, that would have matched up with Gina pretty closely. (Another reason I was glad I wouldn't have to be the one to write it.)

Actually, for this same meme, kappamaki was given the same prompt and had it so Gina and Cylon!Felix were both on Pegasus and both caught, and that Felix was Hoshi's lover. It was such an intriguing idea that I started to write some backstory for it about their time on Pegasus together before they were discovered, but I had it all in a notebook somewhere and I don't know where it ended up. Now I wish I knew what I did with it- I'd like to see if I could clean it up.

Anyway, thank you again for the birthday wishes and the comment! It made my night!
