Personal;
As some of you know, I've been struggling majorly with a dehabilitating migraine for the past month. Last Monday I went to the ER for it because I was vomitting blood and they gave me oral morphine, percocet, and a serotonin fast release drug that, in combination, are at least keeping the pain under control. This migraine is why I haven't gotten through any of my
Sweet Charity obligations but I'm still hoping that I'll make my deadlines [more on that in the fannish section].
There's also been major issues with my tenure at Mills, the college I'm currently attending (at least until this May). Mills, well. While it has many good features and wonderful faculty and staff, it also has a mentality that I actively dislike and find difficult to function with. I'm not a make nice person, as anyone who's read probably any of my meta pieces can readily tell. I'm not a "couch your language in non-directive terms" person. I'm not a "I think it might be" or "It seems to me that" sort of speaker. And I'm certainly not non-confrontational. Being forced into being any and all of those things or otherwise labelled "difficult," "a behavioral problem," "aggressive," "intimidating," and "unapproachable" has not done well for my health, my personal relationships, my grades, my mental state, or my passivity and being surrounded by people who exist in a perpetual state of disclaiming has started to drive me, excuse me for saying, bugfuck insane.
I claim my goddamn opinions, actions, reactions, and even my fucking feelings, thank you very much, and I will not and cannot respect people who refuse to claim theirs because it might be offensive or because they don't want anyone, to ever, in the grand field of human experience that they theoretically will have throughout their lives, be angry or upset at them.
Grow up.
Oh! And
verstehen has reminded me that I do, amazingly enough, also have good news. I was admitted to
SIU Carbondale's Mass Communication and Media Arts graduate program to pursue my Master of Arts in Media Theory and Research. \o/ Take that, Mills. They also offered me an assistantship to work with the program that includes a full tuition waiver so I will not be putting myself into massive debt to do so. So, take that FASFA. May I never have to see the front end of you again.
Fannish;
As usual, I've overextended myself (mostly, this time, given to my real life obligations such as finishing my thesis so that I can go to the aforementioned grad school) in terms of committments, but I'm finally getting on top of them again. Currently, I have these obligations:
femme_fic : FIC: A minimum of 1,000 words: Due by March 30th, 2008.
It's currently looking to be a NCIS/Supernatural crossover featuring Abby Sciuto and John Winchester. It's unfortunately also currently lacking a plot. And a potential beta. If anyone would like to volunteer, yay?
Sweet Charity : FIC : A fic of no less than 3,000 words featuring Tess Doerner (and Kevin Burkoff) from The 4400 : Due by April 30th, 2008.
The basic plot has been worked out in my mind and will be much longer than 3,000 words if I do it any justice at all, but it essentially deals with Tess's conflicting feelings about the capacity for control that her 4400 ability gives her and the potential it has for going out of control during her schizophrenic episodes. As she says, schizophrenia isn't something that just goes away, no matter how miraculous Shawn Farrell's healing hands might be. It also involves Kyle and his visions of Cassie, playing with the contrast between "insane" visions and "sane" ones, and the other sorts of alterations the production of promicin might cause.
sgabigbang : FIC: 40,000 word novel-length Teyla Emmagan/Evan Lorne Stargate: Atlantis story : Full draft due July 14th, 2008; finished story due July 25th, 2008.
I'm currently toying with three prompts to see if I can flesh any of them out into actual novel-length plot premises. As anyone unfortunate enough to be on IM in the last few days with me has heard about, I have real issues with what the challenge has decided constitutes a "prompt" for a 40,000 word novel. As
hufflepest puts it, 'I want a story with the word 'bunny' in it. Twice.'
For all the detail the prompts have, they might as well be her sarcastic one, but more detailed prompts from both myself and
tielan were rejected because they were "plots" and "too character-specific." Character specific prompts that focus on Sheppard don't seem to be a problem for them though, since a full six of the twenty-three available prompts focus on Sheppard to the near exclusion of anyone else (especially the post-S1, Common Ground, Outcast, and Travelers prompts). It had originally been seven until I corrected a point about canon that took the focus off Sheppard, too. It's also nice [warning: sarcasm!] the way the single Ronon prompt involves him leaving Atlantis (making the inclusion of Ronon pairings like Ronon/Jennifer, Ronon/Elizabeth, Ronon/John, Ronon/Lorne, and, obviously, OT4, well, interesting to say the least).
But apparently I missed the memo that prompts are only meant to spark "inspiration" and any actual substance is strictly forbidden. There's a reason I refuse to participate or run ficathons which have this same sort of 'being as vague as possible' mentality to them. Unfortunately I've already committed to this challenge and if I withdraw it'll be to someone else's disadvantage because I signed up to participate as an artist as well.
team_sga : FIC : A fic of at least 500 words in which the Stargate: Atlantis characters exist (and have always existed) in the Supernatural universe. My first try at a fusion. My brain is a little omgpanicwhatnowohgod at me still. It'll forgive me eventually.
Sweet Charity : VID : I'm committed to make a Teyla/John vid for
cupidsbow.
And, boy, am I stuck. I cannot get the song to work for me for some reason, which is terribly ironic since I picked the song out myself. I'm going to give it another try and then contact CB to suggest a change of song. I'm hoping, though, that it was just creative block from the migraine.
Sweet Charity : GRAPHICS : I owe
wolfshark a graphics' set. I'm actually making progress (shock, I know).
I'm also participating in
twopointohno and
ncis_lims, plus all my regular icon challenges.
With six committments still pending, I've put a hold on signing up for any additional challenges. But given the general creativity block I've had and the writer's block in particular, I've decided to try a tactic to get myself writing again even if the writing isn't particularly well-plotted or significant literature.
Insanity;
I'm taking requests for PWP snippets (my goal is the range of 500 to 1500 words) for pairings and threesomes in Stargate: Atlantis. No plot, no justification, and no realistic consequences promised, because I'm not going to try and tangle with DADT in 500 words -- just pure, unadulterated smut. To make a request, please comment with the following:
<*b>Pairing<*/b> [Or <*b>Threesome<*/b>]
<*b>Subject<*/b> [Some sort of theme, item, or request, preferably kinky.]
For example,
Teyla Emmagan/Evan Lorne
Lorne tries anal penetration
Ronon Dex/John Sheppard
Hogtie
Teyla Emmagan/Evan Lorne/Rodney McKay
Extreme submission
If there's some kink you don't want to see (anything from questionable consent to pregnancy porn), please tell me. Also, please don't request watersports, scat, or enema. I don't do bathroom functions! I will do gender switch but I reserve the right to choose who gets switched!
If you don't want to admit to requesting something, you can IM me or e-mail me (both those contacts are available in my profile).
