A declaration of intent, if you will

I've decided that, in the summer of 2010, I want to go to San Diego for Comic-Con. :) That is one of my new goals. I mean, I've been looking at pictures and video footage for the past couple days, and it looks like an astoundingly amazing event. So I'm going to try to go.

The primary issue would be where the money for this trip is coming from. I will have just finished the Master's program for teachers, and I won't have been able to work during that year because of the time commitment with school and placements, so I will have had no real income for almost a year. Any money I make that summer would probably be better spent paying off my school loans, rather than paying for a plane ticket, con admission, and a plethora of souvenirs. :) I would want to arrive in San Diego a couple days before the con started as well, because it would give me an upper hand in avoiding the crowds of people swarming the hotels and airport on the opening day.

Time-wise, though, it would be easier than trying to go to Dragon*Con, as I've been attempting to do for about five years now. Dragon*Con is closer (Atlanta) but always falls on Labor Day weekend, and as a teacher it would be harder to take off the day before the con starts and the day after it ends, because those would be work days. A midsummer con like Comic-Con is easier- I'd just have to take a couple days off whatever job I'd be working at the time.

At least this is marginally cheaper than the other thing I'd wanted to do in the summer of 2010, which was return to Stratford-upon-Avon for the opening of the new Shakespeare Theatre (the one I saw shows in, the Courtyard Theatre, was the RSC's temporary home until the new theatre is rebuilt). Any trip in which I don't have to change my dollars into pounds is somewhat of a relief. :) Just something to think about for now.
