I'm writing you to catch you up on places I've been

I think this journal is better suited for interesting stories than day-to-day haps. Unless a day is quite memorable. SO

On our trip, we met a sailor. His name was Justin and he goes to a school in NY. Except he took a year off to sail to Europe with one other man on a 42' sailboat called Thunderhead. We kayaked out and saw it. He suggested we have s'mores after dinner, so we drove down in his nice Ben Folds-playing volvo to the shore and he built a fire. (Something Ben and Jenny could not accomplish on their camping portion) I showed my little cousin how to properly cook a marshmallow - others seemed to see it as burning it, but he liked it. Then the sun went down and the adults and young kids left Ben, Jenny, Justin, Emily and I on the beach with a fire and stars. We told riddles. I poked the fire and sort of went swimming. Up to my knees in Maine water. (I went all the way in the next day. and Jenny fell in, too) I saw two shooting stars (to bring my lifetime count up to a grand total of 4)

And the whole time, Justin did not tell any sailor stories. The only thing I learned from him was that bananas were a spice. This I did not believe, but did not dispute, because a farmer in the Dominica told him.

What a disappointment. A yearlong trip through Europe, and NO STORIES to tell. Yeah...right.
