Time for your Tim fix!

I know you all have been going through withdrawal symptoms from a lack of Tim entries, but fear not, I plan to start updating regularly again. Where to start... well, so far Stetson is looking pretty awesome. Classes don't start until Wednesday, so I've been going to orientation meetings and "getting to know you" type stuff. It's weird not knowing many people here, but I've already started to meet new people. I moved into my dorm Saturday and it's about all you can expect from a college dorm. Once I get my camera fixed I'll take pictures for your viewing pleasure. The walls are still quite bare, so I'm planning on getting a whole mess o' posters to liven it up a bit. My roomate is one of the most chill people I've met. He's not a music major, but neither is anyone else on my floor. I'm just happy I didn't get an anal retentive Hinkle-type person. That would drive me nuts. I know a lot of people think college is all partying and such, and that may be true for bigger colleges. Not Stetson. Don't get me wrong, there are parties, but not in the volume of a non-private school such as FSU or UCF. They are extremely strict about alcohol, and they have enough staff to patrol the living areas pretty heavily. I was kinda looking foward to the parties and stuff, but it's probably for the better that they are so strict here. Some kids just can't handle the freedom. For example, at FSU, where partying is rampant, the dropout rate is like 50% or something crazy like that. I think at Stetson it's around 8%. Anyway, I've gone to a couple meetings with the music students, and I'm pretty excited. I really like the staff, and the upperclassmen are very helpful. Plus, the band kicks ass. It's huge, somewhere around 85 or something, but it doesn't sacrafice cleanliness or sound quality. Those who saw them play last year can attest to that. Dr. Adams is basically a living legend in the world of music education, and every one of his students can't say enough about him. His encouragement and phone calls are what really tipped the scales for me when I was choosing between FSU and Stetson (also the money :) ). I audition tomorrow for concert band seating and to see if I get into orchestra. I doubt I'll get into orchestra, but it's worth a shot. My schedule is looking pretty light, even for the first semester. I wish they had put me in more liberal arts classes to get them out of the way. Right now my schedule looks like this: 1. Music as a profession
2. Piano 2
3. Symphonic Band
4. Symphonic Band (again)
5. Trumpet Lesson
6. Music Theory I
7. Aural Training
8. American History
9. Music Culture
That's a shit load of band courses. I might talk to someone about that and see if I should be taking more LA classes. As for extracurricular activities, they have a good itramural sports organization. I might join tennis in the Spring. As for this fall, they do offer ping-pong and darts :D . Not too much of a workout, but hey, it's something to do. Anyway, I'm quite bored at the moment as there is a gap in my schedule till later today. I think I might go practice a bit or take a nap until then. I should have a ground line phone set up pretty soon, but if you want to talk feel free to call my cell at 772-532-5847. I'm pretty bored most of the time, so please don't hesitate to call and chat. More to come later. Rock on
