I wouldn't go as far as to say that this episode was bad. Boring, definitely. Save for the revelatory Winchester Family Dynamics-scenes.
Not a picspam.
( 1x08: Bugs )
One of the reasons I never want to go to Australia is because the most poisonous spider in the world is there. I live in Utah, and occasionally run into tarantulas, tho I don't know what kind -- one chased my niece up the driveway years back. Ones I hate are black widows, oily looking and all legs and knees and quick-fast. Eep.
Bugs was the most forgettable episode IMO in season 1. Enjoyed it for the ick factor of bugs, and moved on. Still, good insight into Sam, and builds the suspension about Papa Winchester.
Bugs feels like the expositions in it needed to be done in order for the boys/show to get where it was going. We needed to learn how Sam - John - Dean dynamics worked in the past, how the boys view each other, their father, now in order for the following revelations to make sense. And Sam needed his own "Let's Empathize With The Kid"-episode, since Dean had his in Dead In The Water (1x03).
It's certainly one episode that could give (has given?) birth to a whole fleet of metas... ;)
My arachnophobia has dimmed to mere dislike with the offspring, because they are going after all the creepy-crawlers...
There's nothing much, imo, to miss in this episode. Unless you go digging in deeper and spinning metas...;)
Finland's a 'safe' country, poisonous critter-wise. We only have one poisonous snake (vipera berus), and far as I know, no bugs that can really threaten a human life. The largest spider I've seen (native species), was barely half an inch in size. And as for mosquitoes... the greatest harm they can do is get you scratching your skin bloody.
This is one of my favorite eps, but there is one aspect of SPN that drive me nuts, cause they usually do well with details/or maybe its just my thing... anything medical and Anthro based. (ok, biased, Post grad medical anthro was by thing
( ... )
That's curious. The subtitles I fiddled with claimed the tribe's name was written as "Euchee"...
I'm willing to forgive this show quite a lot, because what comes across loud and clear is that the people behind the show have had fun while doing it, that they're winging stuff on occasion, making educated guesses and just thanking their lucky stars when the fans fall in love... And I love the resourceful, informed fandom this show has. *hugs*
Dean is indeed like a cockroach. And *glee* that's what comes out of the ground just before the boys park in front of the Pikes' doorstep... ;)
That is how Yuchi is pronounced...but the tribe name is Yuchi. There is no Euchee. I'm hoping it was a legal reason they went with it... if they picked a tribe that still exists, its risky... could get sued for slander/hate crime 'red man cursing white man' stuff

If I've gotten anything out of the RPGs I've been subjected to over the years, then it's definitely the idea that whenever Rules/Reality get in the dramatically appropriate idea's way, then the Rules/Reality can go take a break. :) If it's enough to suspend disbelief and most of the folks are having fun, then it's okay. Unfortunately, the larger the venues, the likelier it is to step on someone's toes.
I'd be willing to guess that legality has at least something to do with it. And I fixed the tribe's name: thank you for correcting it! :)
Oh, full frontal male nudity...! *glee* Though that would probably push the show's rating too far for CW...;)
But if this is (One of) Sam's Dream Come True... where's Dean? Part of Joanie, staying out of the conflict between her husband and son?
If so, Sam should be happy because not only did his father welcome him but Dean ended up siding with Sam as much as their father in those final episodes. And Sam with him of course.
I'm rewatching the series, and I've been bookmarking these as they come, to read them as I rewatch. I am so filled with glee that you're doing this! *adores your attention to detail* You found so much interesting stuff that I never noticed.
Thank You! :) I'm just doing this in order to exorcise this tiny voice going "Hey! Did you see that? Sound familiar? I wonder what it means..." All the bloody time I'm watching the show. It gets pretty curious, from time to time.
And rewatching the Show now, after the Second Season...makes me love the whole damn thing all the more... So how's spn_replay working out?

I hear you about the spiders, with the black widows and the brown recluses and the hobos and the wolf spiders . . .

I'm happy they let John's story have an ending, that they didn't leave his fate as one more thorn in the boys' side...
