Thing the first:

Here's a bit of hilarity for you- I have been somewhat slow moving on the thesis this week (working steadily, but without any FIRE behind me) because I had been waiting for Prof Big Cheese to send me the second half of his feedback. Yesterday, before running off to hang out with Sister all afternoon, I emailed him asking if he had gotten a chance yet to finish reading the draft.

TURNS OUT he read my email on Monday that said I was reading through it and fixing a few things and decided that he would wait until I sent him that, rather than read on and (essentially) get annoyed by mistakes I'd have already fixed elsewhere. This meant that I was waiting on him because he thought he was waiting for me.

sjfosdjfoeajfoiesjfoiJARGH.

THIS, BIG CHEESE, IS WHY YOU STEP IN AFTER A FEW DAYS AND ASK WHY YOU HAVEN'T HEARD FROM ME. I EXPECT YOU TO TAKE THE LEAD ON SOME OF THESE THINGS.

So I sent him what I had and now am once again waiting to hear back. SUCH A SILLY PROCESS.

Thing the second:

I rewatched 'The Life Aquatic' last night. It's not my favorite Wes Anderson, but it IS Wes Anderson. There's a lot of things that I enjoy throughout the movie, but it doesn't really reach the Awesome zone until the last 15-20 minutes of the film, IMO. Those are pretty damn near perfection and Bill Murray is sddjflkjfklsj incredible. I think one of the problems of the film is that it went just a little too far on the stoic presentation side- Wes's characters always lean that way, but it works best when they speak simple lines that go right to the gut and you KNOW they just bared their soul, even if they seem as tightly wound as ever. You suspect that Steve has that all the way through, but it's SO repressed and hidden inside until the end. WHICH MAKES SENSE FOR THAT CHARACTER. I buy it completely, but it doesn't make him quite sympathetic enough. There are great moments throughout, but until he starts to crack at the pirate attack, the movie never quite wins me over. Until, you know, THE ENDING.

I also just noticed Intern #1 makes it onto the team by the end, which is AWESOME. Wes's films are so damn rich that it's easy to miss things that go unspoken. I remember when I got to see 'Royal Tenenbaums' at the AFI last year that it felt like such a treat because I knew the story so well that I got a chance to just watch for the art direction on the big screen. I may be compelled to do another picspam this afternoon- WHO CAN SAY. Oh, Wes. Never leave me.

Thing the third:

ARGH STILL NO BABY! Little Theophilus (not his real name) seems to have decided that he LIKES it inside Sister's womb and has no intention of coming out. There's still a week before things get dicey and she's no longer allowed to give birth naturally in DC (LAME), but she's concerned and I wish T would just HURRY UP AND COME SAY HI so she could stop worrying (about that part). Our parents are coming for a visit in a week and she really, REALLY wants the kid to be born at that point, which is totally understandable. There's also the part where I need to get back to Staunton to see the rest of the ARS and try and use the ASC archives again, which is kind of impossible while we're all still waiting for baby time. AH WELL. I keep passing up theatre tickets and time with friends and THIS BABY IS CRAMPING MY STYLE. Come onnnnnnnn, Theo.

Thing the fourth:

Thursday was a nifty day- Choral Arts sang the Rachmaninoff Vespers at St Matthew's Cathedral in downtown DC, which is one of those places that makes you go DAMN IT FEELS GOOD TO BE A CATHOLIC. ;) The 'Ave Maria' movement came close to making my cry (as it always does) and it was a tug to the old heartstrings to see Norman conduct from the other side.

Afterwards, Celeste, Ray, and one of his roommates and I went over to the Tabard Inn for a late dinner, which was FANCY. PANTS. Also awesome. :) Delicious food was et and wine was drunk and conversation sparkled- who could ask for anything more?

Thing the fifth:

I am DESPERATELY HOPING to get to see my friend Brian this weekend. We were supposed to meet up a week ago, but the LAME-O got SICK. *harumphs* SOME PEOPLE. I've just texted him with fingers crossed (difficult), so we'll see what happens. Otherwise, I will mostly be hanging around, waiting on Big Cheese to tell me how much my thesis draft sucked and thinking encouraging thoughts towards Theophilus. I DO know how to have a good time.

film, thesis, his cheese is bigger than yours, choirgeek, auntie em, friends
