Um, no.

Ok, I was cruising around the DC Theatre Scene website, which keeps tabs on the goings-on of the (big surprise!) DC theatre scene. They review shows and compile the reviews of others, and also do interviews and podcasts and so forth.

I saw that they had reviewed the Folger's production of The Winter's Tale, probably my favorite of the late Shakespeare plays, and so I eagerly looked at the initial blurb to see if I could tell if they liked it or not.

And then I see this quote:
Can [director] Blake Robison, with imaginative staging and a vigorous and powerful cast, breathe sweetness and life into this tired old warhorse of a play? Hah! You might as well ask whether Mike Tomlin can use the old-school virtues of a fierce defense and a low-risk offense to win yet another Super Bowl for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Of course he can! And he does!

AND THEN I REMEMBER WHY I OFTEN HATE DC THEATRE SCENE'S REVIEWERS.

TIRED OLD WARHORSE?

SUPERBOWL ANALOGIES?

SPARE ME.

NEEDLESS TO SAY, I did not read on.

ETA: I just found this description in an article I'm reading for my Digital Humanities class, which might just be awesome enough to salvage my afternoon:
The Voyager Macbeth [CD-ROM edition] also includes an audio recording of the entire play by the Royal Shakespeare Company and a Karaoke feature that allows the user to perform a role opposite the audio.

OMG YES PLEASE. Karaoke Shakespeare would be AMAZING.

capslock of rage, winter's tale
