Right, so, onward with the weekend!
Saturday I had to be up early to make it to a choir rehearsal up at St. Columba's at 10, which is across town and about an hour travel with the walk to Union Station. But it was a GORGEOUS day, so I wasn't really complaining about the walking bit. Practise itself was fine (although I spent it with the new Holly Black novel perched on my lap for any opportunity to read a paragraph or two while Norman worked with other sections), although it chafed the soul to be held inside on such a sunny, breezy Saturday. When we finished at 1, I decided to pop into the Container Store to pick up a new blouse hanger and discovered I should NEVER be allowed in that store without an escort. Well, ok, actually I managed fine in the end, but blouse hanger turned into blouse hanger + skirt hanger + trousers hanger + belt hangar + superstrong little magnet doodads for my bulletin strip. Trust me- it was almost SO MUCH WORSE. Purchases in hand (ok, in bag), I stepped back into the metro and impulsively decided to go two more stops out to Bethesda and surprise Fo at work. Having done so, I toddled back home, eyes already on the next exiciting event: 'Hot Fuzz' with some of the group from the night before.
SO. MUCH. FUN. OHMYGOODNESS. While not nonstopfantasticness, the sheer BRILLIANCE of the vast majority of it made us all helpless with laughter and grinning wildly when we emerged. Like so many, the only words I can really manage are 'By the power of Greyskull!'
(except I wanted to see my BFF Jessica Stevenson in a cameo and she was ABSENT- WOE! although a quick scan of IMDB reveals that she'll be a guest on two episodes of Doctor Who- RAPTURE!)
Sunday was
westerly day. :) She scored me a ticket to see 'She Stoops to Comedy' at Woolly for the matinee, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Kate 'Rockstar' Norris played the double role of Jayne/Kay and was BRILLIANT, particularly so in the inevitable scene between the two characters. Rockstar. :) Afterwards, Elissa and I went out for margaritas and had a good gush about Propeller and their 'Shrew' as we sharted a sloppily delicious chicken quesadilla. It was a decidedly Shakespearean day because, after stopping for ice cream, we headed BACK to Woolly and saw Taffety Punk's version of 'Cardenio,' helpfully titled 'Cardenio Found.' The play itself was unremarkable, but it was a pleasant enough means of spending an evening and I can now credit myself with further knowledge of the whole Cardenio Thing- always a plus.
So that was my weekend! Hardly any free time, but fun galore with films and Shakespeare coming out my ears, which is just how I like it. :)
