Well, this week has been rather productive, art-wise. I was able to color a few things, start a new sketch (which shall be shown in a moment!), go to Utrecht for some new supplies, and even experiment a little with ink.
Quick sketch I did of a cheetah. I'm still working on it, and have modified a few things since I scanned it. My sister, lover of all things cheetah, looked it over for me and told me that the legs aren't long enough and the face looks more leonine than a cheetah should. While I respectfully disagree with her about the legs, I couldn't agree more about the face. So, after this, I shall practice sketching some cheetah head structure.
So, on my excursion to Utrecht on Thursday, I picked up a Pilot Fineliner pen. I've been wanting to try some black and white ink pictures for a while now, ever since I found my old copy of Kids' Letters to Harry Potter. A person by the name of Syrena Donè did the illustrations for the book, all done in black and white ink and I love them! They are just so full of whimsy and fantasy. It really is amazing to see someone make such captivating pictures without the use of color, especially when you see so many other people trying to wow their audience with a rainbow overload. (Note: the two drawings with the arrows saying "Credits to..." are copied from parts of her actual illustrations, just to clear up any confusion)
And now for the more mundane stuff...
Some practice sketches of a hummingbird, plus lots of barn owls.
More hands. It isn't until you need to draw them that you realize just how many different poses the hands can make, and how many different ways you can make them look really bad if you don't know what you're doing. Oh well, practice makes perfect, I hope!
That's it for now. Later, I might post my changes to the cheetah picture and next week...expressions!
