So, I have been rather busy this past week, which unfortunately means less time for drawing. Feeling guilty about this lack of productivity, I have regressed to my old gesture drawing stand-by subjects: animals. The good thing about the animal kingdom is there are so many different shapes and sizes, that one doesn't get bored easily drawing them. Plus, right now, I would rather just draw a deer or a horse than a human.
These two pages are courtesy of Mark J. Barrett's photography website. He features horses mostly, but he also has a good section on other animals. These are incredibly awful drawings, I'm aware of that. I just needed to scribble out something to feel like I did any sort of practice.
Giraffes! I found this book, Chee-lin: A Giraffe's Journey, at the local library. I was intrigued by the giraffe in a Chinese setting (as far as I know, giraffes are not, nor have ever been indigenous to China, so how did it factor into a Chinese story?) It's a cute little story, with pretty illustrations. Now, of course, I want to try some more Mucha-esque pictures featuring giraffes and Oriental designs (which is appropriate; Art Nouveau did take inspiration from Asian, particularly Japanese, art).
And last but not least....
Slowly but surely finishing this one up! Hopefully I can get some color down today.
