Bought this book when I first started trying to learn how to sew. To this day it's an invaluable resource when I come across something new in my efforts and want an education of what it is and what it looks like (especially since smor and melyanna cannot be expected to be online at all hours for my sewing-related question convenience. ;-)

Anyway, it's very well organized as a how-to book, with color-coded sections on terminology, techniques, and (probably my favorite part, as someone who's always trying to recreate costumes for which Simplicity does not have a ready-to-go pattern), an extensive section on how to do alterations. All of the above are supported by clear, easy-to-follow photographs. I think it's a wonderful investment for any new seamster/seamstress.
