The Great July - Days 12, 13, and 14

Monday was work. Then, when I came home, my aunt and cousins arrived. I made one ruffle while the kids played the Avatar game that Kate gave me for the Wii. I knew they'd be excited about it. If I'd known there was a two player mode, I would have told them to bring their own nunchuck (I don't have a second one).

I happened to be talking about The Last Airbender film and how Sokka's character is basically pointless in it, and Daniel (who is about to turn nine) turned around with this thoroughly stunned look on his face and went, "What!?!? Sokka doesn't have any jokes!?!?! That's so stupid!!!!"

And he kept exclaiming about it for the rest of the night. When he and Jacqueline weren't fighting over who got to play the glider games on Ember Island. LOL

Yesterday I attempted to start a self-imposed moratorium on internet use at work, because I'm just not as productive as I would like to be. Even when I'm not actually on LJ, I'm distracted, thinking over my latest post or pondering someone's meta, or being attacked by plot bunnies. So. I said no to the internet yesterday and surprise! Got a lot more done.

Yesterday evening was a bit off, as mom wanted me to help with the tax return for Pappap's estate, and just reading the thing for five minutes gave me a headache and we both got snappy. And then I gave her misinformation about iTunes (not on purpose!) and she got even more upset with me, which rarely happens. So, I felt bad about that.

The evening took a definite upswing, however, when for whatever reason I decided to watch Fanboys. On the tails of my recent even-more-than-before obsession with How to Train Your Dragon (I have been listening to the soundtrack almost nonstop for a week), and being a fan of Jay Baruchel's unique comic timing and heartwarming delivery in his performance as Hiccup, was trolling imdb and saw he was Fanboys, which I had heard about but also forgotten about. Also, Kristen Bell, who seems to shine in anything she does. So I *cough* found it and watched it.

And loved it.

It could have done with way fewer jokes about flashing and humping and middle fingers. Way fewer. But the ending was perfect, I loved the ship (which didn't follow the formula I thought-- I was pleasantly surprised), and the chemistry of the main cast was spot on. There were enough non-vulgar jokes to balance out the bad ones. And it made me cry. In a good-ish way. Which might sound weird, but... well, you have to watch it.

And really... I think the movie charmed me not only because I'm a Star Wars fan, but because of all the memories it brought back about the anticipation for Episode I. It's funny to think back, being so accustomed now to the general disappointment in the prequels that before we had no thought whatsoever that we could possibly be disappointed. The earth spins around the sun and Star Wars will always be awesome.

So yeah. Really loved it. And I may go see The Sorcerer's Apprentice this weekend just because I'm becoming a lightning-rapid fan of Mr. Baruchel's comedy.

Today at work I did pretty good on not abusing the internet as well, though I did give in once briefly when Jason IM'd me to say he'd read a rumor online that Zachary Levi was being considered for a role in the Superman reboot movie, presumably the lead. My first reaction was, "Another Superman movie?! They just made one!" My second reaction was, "Zac would be a great Clark Kent, but he doesn't look like Superman to me." My third was, "Are you sure they didn't get mixed up because Brandon Routh guest starred on Chuck?" My fourth was a general realization of just how thoroughly Superman bores me.

Anyway, I got online briefly to read it for myself. He was right. But it's just crazy wild rumor phase. I'm not saving up for box office tickets just yet.

Tonight after church Ruth and I went to the grocery store to buy picnic stuff for Cedar Point tomorrow.

Cedar Point!!! Whee!!!
