Story of Two Brothers

On a day like this,
It's easy to come by.
The memories,
Of that fatal day.
Two friends on the journey of a lifetime,
A journey not long enough lived.

"You remember her?" asked Johnny to his friend Mel.
Mel replied, "Hey, Johnny, that's the story to tell."
"She was sweet, not yet nineteen."
"And, yet I never thought you'd be the one to steal her away from me."

These two were men now, but still boys at heart,
They were best friends, like brothers.
No one knew what tore them apart.
They swore an oath never to fall in love,
Yet that oath was broken, when both fell for a girl.

"She was only one girl.
There will always be others!"
"But, it's always different when you decide to claim a brother's!"
"What are you going to do now that she's with me?"
"I wanna find out the kind of man you claim to be."

A brawl broke out,
A pistol was drawn.
Two brothers squared off,
Innocence was gone.

"We can work this out!"
"I hate you! You were supposed to be my friend, my brother!"

A gunshot,
An echo,
Another gunshot,
An echo,
Silence.

On a day like this,
It's easy to come by.
The memories of that fatal day.
Two friends on a journey of a lifetime.
A life not lived nearly long enough.

When they were found,
No one knew what had torn them apart.
No one knew one woman's love,
Had condemned two men's hearts.
