So. I wracked my brain trying to find something to do with leather, and came up with little. Then I desperately mined the Joann's, and came up empty handed. But then an epiphany! Leather cord! But what can I do with it?
Bondage!
The cord I found is thin, inappropriate for most bondage, and I couldn't exactly take pictures if I bound my hands. So instead, I did some hand self-bondage. I've never done hand bondage before, but it was very interesting to try. I started off sort of dicking around, doing things that were strictly decorative. It took me an age to figure out how to wrap it to make it make sense, but slowly but surely I figured it out at least a little.
I know there's a lot of bondage here, but this is a leather essay, so I want to focus on leather as a tool and what made it ideal for this project. The first thing, as you can see, is that the brown leather against white skin made for a very pretty contrast. Leather comes in all kinds of colors, so with the right one, it could make a nice match for any skin tone. This tie is really just decorative, and I wasn't focusing much on the finer points.
For the first few, tying in the round was kind of a shitshow, but that's how it is sometimes. I've seen professional bondage photographers speak who were like, "Okay, so, don't take any pictures from the back, we'll just hide everything."
What made the leather cord REALLY great for this was that it had great marking power. I didn't leave any of these on for more than a couple minutes, but because of the relative inflexibility of the leather, it pressed in nicely.
So that was neat, but I wanted to try a couple more things.
This tie is a little different. I was messing around with negative space, trying to make it look a bit geometric, but the thing I was most interested in was leaving freedom in the fingers. The ring finger isn't restrained, which felt really interesting, the contrast between the restriction and the latitude.
You can see another thing here- some of these ties I tied off at my bracelet. As a special piece of leather, a bit about my bracelet goes here: as a matter of course, I wear one of a number of wristbands, most of which are leather. I refer to them collectively as the Big Subby Wristband, and I wear them as an expression of my nature as a sub. Yes, I am aware of the oddity of wearing a symbol of submission on the left, but I wear my wrist on my right hand, which, idk, indicates I'm into punctuality. So tying in there was a really appropriate gesture.
Next I wanted to try something very simple, yet still restrictive. This doesn't look like much, but the leather allowed for a lot of tension relatively easily. (Rope would have been better for the actual tying off, because the leather was too slick and stiff to catch on itself and form a good knot.) This one actually hurt a little.
Still a mess from the back.
You can see how restrictive it actually was from the marks here.
It occurred to me after this one that I could do something a lot more restrictive, using the stiff leather and the leather bracelet as a tie point. This one is tied in such a way that I could only barely uncurl my fist, and only very uncomfortably.
This was the only one I actually liked from all angles.
Really great marks from this one, though it did hurt. Wouldn't recommend it for more than a few minutes.
And then I decided to do the polar opposite to round it off. This is restricting in its own way, though, as it's meant to be tied off (it was actually tied to my ankle) and it means the loss of an important digit, which can be surprisingly effective. The leather was particularly great here because it held its shape under tension in a way that rope wouldn't have.
So. That was my first try with hand bondage, and the leather really worked for it. The feel of it was nicely restrictive, it left lovely marks, and it held up to whatever I shaped it into.
It even held up to sneaky cats.
For all your gallery needs, here's a gallery with larger images, though I give the caveat that my parents were around, so the lighting sucks and some (most) of them are blurry. Enjoy!
