doodles... :)

People who knew me from back then can attest to the fact that the back of my notebooks were filled with all sorts or scribbles. I even used to take my friends' new notebooks and doodle on them (with permission, of course).

Hmm, hanap nga ako ng lumang notebook tapos scan ko siguro isang page ehehe. Oddly enough, alot of the good works I did were born from those doodles. I'm sure I'm not the only person who doodles on notebook margins, regardless of whether you think you have talent or not (and I'm not insinuating anything with that statement, ok?)

Saka noon, I used to think that sketchpads were reserved for your better work. Example, pag doodles lang, ok na yung ordinary paper: scratch, bond paper, intermediate pad, etc. Pero if I was going to outline it then color it and show it off to people, I should draw it on the sketch pad. It wasn't until college did I really start using the sketchpad to, well, sketch everything. :p Good thing about it too, is it's easier for me to flip through my work.

Siguro when I go back to Zambales, I'll scan a few more. Nakakatuwa eh. Then I'll build a site where I can put up a chronological gallery. Para I can see my progress... or lack of.

Ranma 1/2 was the first Japanese comic I read. I've seen several anime shows before, but y'know how it was back then, you weren't aware that they were called "anime" or "manga"? It was like that for me. I only had a handful of friends who liked anime/manga, and we were "weird" for our classmates. This is copied from one of the chapter covers when Ranma and Akane did the Romeo & Juliet story. :p

Back then, X-1999 was being printed by Viz as a two-chapter monthly comic, and it was so darn expensive. My friend Joyce religiously brought them, and we'd take turns reading it. This one was copied off one of an add for the manga in an old Animerica magazine. Just one pencil using varying pressures and layers. After this, I got interested in other CLAMP works.

I remember sitting in front of my cousin's desk, flipping through a manga when I spied a picture of Hiei. I just finished drawing Kurama a few days before (huge Yu Yu Hakusho fan here!), and I thought, "Eto naman". I copied this off a really small picture (about 2"x3"), and used only one pencil to shade everything.

I had some more colored work that my mom lent out to the library (which she did without my consent). I never got them back. The loss of my drawing of Hikaru (Rayearth) was especially painful because I managed to get the details of her sword (the final version) and even color it (we all know how detailed CLAMP's drawing are). I've never tried to do another Rayearth work after that. One of the lost drawings was a Yu Yu Hakusho art, which had the only drawing of Kuwabara that I ever did (I don't like him kasi). Also a Ranma 1/2 drawing featuring characters from the 2nd movie.

I also did a drawing and sent it to Animerica. It got published... and earned me two pen friends. Di pa uso gano email nun eh ehehe. And when I think about it... I did alot of drawings which I gave away. Hmm... wonder if I could get them back?

Addict talaga ako ^_^
