Maybe you are a little confused, as you seen to have seen a lot of shows at the 'Festival D'ete de Quebec'....
The Friends of the Crimson King consisted of - the ADRIAN BELEW POWER TRIO - Adrian Belew on Guitar, Julie Slick on Bass, and Eric Slick of Drums.... - the CALIFORNIA GUITAR TRIO + 2 - Paul Richards, Bert Lams and Hideyo Moriya on acoustic guitars, plus Tony Levin on Bass, and Pat Mastelotto on Drums....
The only thing 'Pink Floydy' about the F.o.C.K portion of the show, was the CGT rendition of Pink Floyd's 'Echoes' - which was absolutely awesome work from these 3 guys on acoustic guitars ALONE, considering the electronica used by Pink Floyd in the orginal to achieve the same result...
Maybe you are getting confused with the opening band of the night - 'The Frequency' - awesome band, which was totally Pink Floyd revisited - they were excellent in my humble opinion.....
As for 'experimental' - the Adrian Belew Power Trio couldn't have been more experimental - they played their newest piece simply called 'E' - and if this is not experimental music at it's finest - then King Crimson must have been doing Pink Floyd covers for the past 20 years!
It was a dream come true, to see these finest of musicians playing a one-off show together.... Capped off, with the inclusion of the brilliant Les Claypool on King Crimson's 'Three of a Perfect Pair' (if memory serves me correctly).... Having 3 bass players play this song was killer!
A brilliant night musically - shame the stage was so damned high....the musicians seemed to be stuffed way at the back of the stage, and very far away from the audience...thank god for those huge video screens - the only way to really see what was going on....

Thanks for the correction.
As a neophyte of the FoCK thingy, I mistakenly got Levin and Belew mixed up. I wasn't a fan of the genre to start with, but gave personal opinion of why I thought, I was by far not trying to impose my personal musical preference on anyone. And I didn't get anyone confused as the opening band for that night, since I wasn't there for the frequency. I was just talking about the CGT and ABPT. IMHO, and not to discredit the musicians since they are all virtuosos, the style of CGT was too ethereal for me. I used the pink floyd reference because I get the same feeling when I listen to pink floyd. I prefered ABPT's style and identified more with their style. When both of the bands were on stage, they meshed well and it made their concert for me (not to mention the cameo by Les). Seeing that I was there for Primus, I quickread some wiki stuff about FoCK before the show to get in context, and did my best to enjoy and appreciate.
Mind you, the result was better for me than The Musical Box show!
