Summer Fest Recap

Jul 14, 2008 09:42

Price of admittance for ALL the shows: 30$
Bands and Artists seen and comments:
Van Halen: Great to see Diamond Dave back with the Van Halen family, will go see them again if they tour and buy any new albums they release

Friends of Crimson King: mix of Adrian Belew Power Trio and California Trio. They gave a show that was a bit too pink floydy for me and not enough experimental. They were at their best when all 7 musicians were on stage.

Primus: My best show. Les Claypool knows how to keep a crowd in a show and baffle you with the ease that he strokes that bass. Unfukingbelievable.

Charle Aznavour: Fresh crooner legend. Had to go see him if just to see that I was there. Too mellow for me, left halfway. Didn't help that Zappa playing Zappa was playing just beside us and that the music and crowd were drowing our show.

Priestess: My surprise. Good solid rock band from Montreal. Bunch of long haired hillbillies that used cow bell, what's not to like?

Stone Temple Pilots: Despite bad reviews, sound, Scott Weiland being completely trashed and starting 10 minutes late, they still delivered and Scott sung through all the hits without missing a beat or collapsing. Anyone thinking they would get blown away like STp would delived in the late 90's shouldn't have come.

Musical Box: Scariest show I've ever seen. This Quebec City cover band recreates the 1973 Genesis show that took place in Montreal at the forum, with the same costume, set and discussion (including the fake english accent) with the audience. Despite excellent sound and great musicians, I really didn't like it. I'm not a fan of cover bands or impersonnators (which was basically what this was). And watchinga guy pretend he's PEter Gabriel pretending to be a bat, dung beatle and old man just isn't my thing.

Atreyu: California band with two multiple singers à la Linkin Park. Solid show, nothing to complain about.

Silverstein: Typical modern rock band from Ontario. They were alright, too much screaming.

Linkin Park: Great show despite the rain and bad sound. IÈm not a big fan of the band but htey give a memorable perfrormance

Average cost per act: 3$

Someone got the bigger end of the stick...
