Forgive me if this rambles, and also some of you may have seen an almost identical post on Tumblr, but I wanted to post it here, too, where a conversation could be comfortably had, if anyone is so inclined

Saw this post on tumblr, but wanted to say: congratulations!!
A question: did you plan out this fic in its ENTIRETY (characters, setting/world-building, and of course, plot) before starting to write? Or did you come up with things as you went along?
It is an oddly productive feeling isn't it? Don't worry if you don't capture it again *right away* - I usually need a little decompression time when I get off a big fic, fanfic or origanal. Now feel free to strut about!
My second one, actually, it's just like 3 times longer than the Farscape one. ;)
Yeah, I do feel like I accomplished something, even if my sister thinks it's a little crazy that I put this much effort into something that isn't "original" or sellable. I still proved to myself that I can do it, right? And I learned so much from the experience that I can apply to future projects.
The biggest thing I learned, I think, is to carry a notebook with you so you can jot down ideas as soon as you can after they come to you. I've never gone so far as to stop on the side of the road to write something down, but I HAVE pulled into a parking lot to jot down notes and bits of dialogue so that I could recreate a scene that came to me while driving. I didn't do that a couple of times, thinking that it was so vivid in my head that OF COURSE I'd remember it when I got home/to work and could write the scene. My brain just laughed and laughed
( ... )
Congratulations! I still have all the awe :D Are you already planning what to write next or you going to put the keyboard down and step away for a while?

I'm actually planning what to write next, not to mention working on a gift exchange fic that's due in 10 days.
(Speaking of fics, I'm planning to do some reading of a certain Supernatural/Roadhouse fic over lunch in just a few minutes...)
