I am bored.

Boredy, boredy McBored.

Got anything interesting happening I should know about?

Entertain me, people!

In other news, after speculating with azelmaroark the other day that it made more sense for the mentors to accompany the tributes to the Launch Room Stockyard, rather than the stylists, I discovered last night in working on the next ( Read more... )

the hunger games, boredom is a terrible thing

(I actually have the day off HOLY CRAP)

I thought about that exact same thing as you on mentors v. stylists in the Stockyard when I was writing "Nowhere to Stand" because while I realize Cinna was important to Katniss, logistically mentors would typically make more sense.

But then I ran into two issues. The second one is the exact same one you describe: not being there in Mentor Central for the starting gong and the bloodbath, arguably the most dangerous time of the Games. But I was probably lucky the first one tipped me off to the issue pretty decisively in a way you wouldn't get in dealing with Four.

Namely, there's one Haymitch (and all the other districts have had this "one living victor" issue at some point in the past) and there's two tributes in separate launch rooms.

BORED? I'm up for rambling about whatever? :D

I wonder if there's a comm on LJ for Hunger Games canon like there was (is) for Battlestar Galactica canon... A research hub where fic writers can ask a question and people who already know can answer. Or discuss to work out the logic of things.

Or is that themockingjay? Heh.

Hi kitty!

Hmm. It always seems to me like themockingjay is more of a sharing comm than a discussion comm. But this is a good example of the potential need for something like that, because it's not even something a beta might readily catch.

I did sign up for the Big Bang, BTW. God help me.

Heh. And here, right after I post, something came up at work. *facepalm*

I'm still on the fence regarding BB. One good idea came out of my post the other day (and by "good" I mean one that got me thinking), but I don't think it'll keep me interested long enough to write it AND Treading Water at the same time. And I can't back off of TW -- my head would explode.

Isn't that how it always goes? :P

Yeah, I hear you there. HID is definitelya smaller project than TW. Given the fact Haymitch is there for a lot of the canon stuff I could kind of skim in the interest of not doing a scene-for-scene rehash (though yeah, like anything that'll easily beat 100K is small, WTF me) so I signed up with at least decent confidence HID will be done or wrapping up in a reasonable timeframe for me to do the BB. I wouldn't want to try to juggle the two at once by any means.

Plus that damn Maysilee AU plot bunny keeps nibbling.

What's the big bang? (she asks, sort of dreading the answer, because the plot bunnies, they are already numerous)

het_bigbang. Write a het-centric fic of 25K plus words, get artwork done for it.

The big bang refers to this. There's a het big bang challenge starting up (sign ups close on May 17, I believe) where you can write either a 10,000 word fic or a 25,000 word fic (which gets artwork!) for a het pairing in any fandom.

And also, if you have any het Hunger Games ideas that might sustain 25k of fic (that you're not going to write yourself, of course), feel free to leave them here.

In fic news with me, presently working with the notion of Finnick/Annie early on in Thirteen when Finnick's apparently still sometimes dazed and wonky mentally from an electric shock. It's an interesting reversal of the usual "Finnick as Annie's anchor" dynamic.

Also my Head!Annie continues to be perceptive and is apparently calling BS on Thirteen people already.

Maybe there were people with a heart here in Thirteen, because sometimes they seemed so cold and sterile and industrial, like the artificial steel walls and fluorescent lights of their home had sapped all the natural things of feeling from them. The people of Thirteen were grey and cold and the people of the Capitol were colorful and decadent but they both alarmed her because it seemed like they both had forgotten how to simply be human.

YES! This is exactly right, especially for Annie.

Whew! Annie's still a voice I'm sort of trying out, so good to know I get the stamp of approval from the resident Annie guru. \o/
