A Small Price
When the light of morning spilled in through the thin curtains, Dick watched the play of shadows moving over Jason's back, the bruises from the night before already purpling and nearly indistinguishable from those shadows. Settled next to him in the bed, he smoothed a hand over each bruise, massaging ever so gently with light presses of fingertips and his thumb, even as he snuggled close and dropped light kisses on his mussed hair.
When Jay woke later, he'd insist on inspecting every bruise, every cut, every mark, making sure each and every one was tended to properly, cared for, kissed and dressed, because he just couldn't stand having to hurt him to give him what he wanted, what he needed. He hated seeing Jason injured. Hated having been the one to do it. If he could just make Robbie Malone and Officer Grayson disappear, make Jay forget that he'd ever used those names, maybe... maybe they wouldn't have to do this anymore.
But no, that was foolish thinking. Of course Jason would still want to do this. He'd just find another outlet for his desires, his pain, his past. He'd go out and pick up real thugs, get himself hurt beyond what could be fixed with a first aid kit, get himself killed.
And that just wasn't acceptable.
Of the two options, Dick would rather take care of Jason himself, see to his needs and pick up the pieces afterward. If that meant Jay had to take a little bruising and a few cuts to his knees, a scrape to one cheek, well, it was a small price to pay.
For Jay, Dick would do anything, even this.
