Author's Notes: This story was originally inspired by a prompt at the first Drabble Fest at where_no_woman, and the idea simply grew and grew until a short fic couldn't possibly hope to contain it. I've thoroughly enjoyed fleshing out Joanna's character, giving her a full life and a place in the Star Trek XI universe, and I hope you all enjoy reading about her exploits as much as I did writing them.
This story is also a part of my "Daughters and Sons" 'verse, a broad fic series that will eventually chronicle the lives and exploits of the children of the Enterprise crew, including Joanna McCoy, Saavik, David Marcus, Demora Sulu, and others. Hints of the others' lives are already present in this story, along with little glimpses of TOS canon, and how things have changed with the new timeline.
A note about Jocelyn Treadway: she is very verbally abusive in this story. I didn't set out to make her the villain initially, but that's just the way the story unfolded. I hope the story's ending and my treatment of other female characters makes up for that, though.
