.....returned her tools to her utility belt.

-childish giggle- I keep things in my belt. It's what I do.

like a line of baby ducks in their yellow hard hats.

hehehe I like that description. I am liking this new character. If she turns out to be "important" I'll like her and if this is just a vignette I'll be impressed at the time you took on her.

“Fine, I'll just radio down to Gene with the MetroGas crews and we'll see.” She pulled her radio from her utility belt to call down to the crew working on the floor beneath them, and―

FWOOOOOOOOMMM!!!!!

Oh cool! A very refreshing take on a Superman to the rescue kind of moment to come from the "day players" side of things! Can't wait to see how ti unfolds!

Sarah's stomach churned, as, without warning, she found herself falling. The floor completely gave way beneath her, and she realized in horror that everything above her was falling, too. God, no, this can't be real!! She kept falling, through the floor below all the way to the nineteenth floor, and landed, hard, the impact driving ( ... )

Hehe... Every good woman needs a utility belt! :p

Wow. I've known her for five seconds and I already care about her. Hold on girl! Supes is on his way!

Glad you liked the way I handled the characters here. It just seemed like something that has been missing from Superman stories - the human side of things, the people that are affected. Sara was my first OC victim of the story, so I felt I needed to put something extra into her and her coworkers.

VERY awesome descriptions. And the cutting back and forth so much really adds to the tension. That's going to happen *a lot* when we get into the action part of the story, and Clark has to ( ... )

“Uh-huh. I love you, too, Mommy.” There was a pause, then, “Mommy, is Superman okay?”

Lois startled at his question. “What? Why would he not be okay, Jason?”

“Cuz' he looks tired.”

Awwwwww -huggles Jason- Man I love that kid

Ducking into an alley on the far side of the tall condo towers, Clark sank to the ground, leaning heavily against a brick wall for support as he landed on his own cape and let his booted feet slide out away from him. Too many people had died. Sixteen people. Sixteen people too many.

-heartbreaks-

A voice from the past rang through his head at that. “You can't save everyone, Clark. You may not like it, but it's true. And it's going to hurt like the dickens.” His Ma had been right when she'd told him that after his first real failed rescue, waggling a finger at him sternly. She'd been right so many times now. Every time he'd lost a life, her voice came straight to him, reminding him that this was the way it was. That it wasn't his fault. That he could only do so much. That it would be painful.

One thing I ( ... )

Isn't he just made of awesome? :)

One thing I love about him is that not matter how many lives he saves, he still takes every death so hard. He really never gets used to it. He still cares. And thats why it's like man you can forgive him anything because if it was up to him everything would always be ok.

Yup! *huggles him* He deserves all the forgiveness in the world, because if he could, he really would try to save *everyone*. :(

-sad smile- his work suit. That's cute.

:p It's in about as good a shape as his life is, I'm afraid. *huggles him again*

*peeks under the rug*

Was there anything... um... for the last bits of the chapter? *hopeful smile* :)

*hugs you for being the best reviewer *ever**!!! ^_^

LOL I just felt bad for Clark. I know Lois doesn't now what's he's been through but she seems to use him as her punching bag when the slightest thing goes badly.

I mean sure he bailed but he still from her side of things went to the scene and got stuff for the article. It's like she forgets the long talks and the good advice he gives her the second she doesn't get her way.

And I know she has stuff going on, but thats really only excuseable to an extent. Plus even not know he's Superman, she knows he doens't have it perfect.

And she juuuuust was thinking about how she felt bad about dragging everyone along for the ride.

hehe sorry. I'm miffed at Lois and in a protective of Clark mood.

I actually was hoping despiter time and distance and likelihood that she would find Superman in that alleyway and comfort him.... even though she was SO not even in the area lol

-hugs back-
thanks for liking all my rambling!

Hmmm... Well, yeah, Lois is being a bit hard on him, but considering her own mess, and not really having any idea why Clark just up and disappeared on her, when he said he'd be there to finish the article with her, I don't really blame her. (I'm a Lois defender at heart, I'm afraid. :P)

Not to worry, though, things will improve between them... though, only after a few more snafus on Clark's part and general misunderstandings. Really, it's the wall put up by her not knowing who he is that's causing the trouble.

And hey, how could I not like your rambling!? You're the *only one* doing any rambling in here! O_O *whimper*

*hugs*

Of the people fleeing in terror and the remaining utility workers on the ground, none of them noticed when Superman, a mere flash of red and blue, appeared in the sky, heading straight for the burning, smoking, crumbling building.

Mm, this was a really good sentence for capturing the chaos of the situation--it has to be completely out of hand for people to not notice Superman. And although his arrival is usually portrayed as a sort of "Everyone stop and look at the sky!" moment, I bet usually people hardly even notice...fighting for survival will do that to you.

Watching Clark try to save people, and agonize when he can't save everyone, is always a powerful image, and you pull it off wonderfully here!

With exploding buildings, I figured there might be that overwhelming sense of panic, even in this universe, where I did throw in a mention of a 9/11-style terrorist attack while Supes was missing. :( And this is just the beginning of the action plot! There's going to be a lot more chaos... a *lot* more.

And thanks! I'm glad I'm portraying his helplessness here in the right light. Poor Clark. *huggles him*

Ooh, I love this. I have been reading chapter 1-7 in record speed, and was blown away by the details in the story, the forebodings hinted by the plot, and the messed up relationships/lives all around :)
One thing though - is it still possible to access the old version of the story? I tried going to the blueplanet website but it seems to be down. The thought that there is a finished version of the story somewhere is giving me a huge itch that I can't scratch....

So glad you're enjoying this! The full story is still up on The Planet, though it is the rough version with all my faux pas and flubs. :p

OHMYGODOHMYGOD!!

*flails*

I'm still reading the whole thing, maybe around halfway through, and I can't imagine what kind of wreck I'd be if I'd been reading it when it was still a WIP. Anyway, just popping it to say what a fantastic work it is and even if I'm going to OD on it I'll go with a big grin on my face!
