"When will he wake up?"
"Should be soon."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, Martha. I'm very sure."
"Don't you think you've given him a little bit too much of retcon?"
"It's not my fault that the Tardis chose that moment to start shaking violently. He'll be fine. This is Jack after all."
"I think he's coming 'round."
"See, I told you he would. Hello Jack!"
"..."
"Did he lose his voice? He looks rather scared, don't you think?"
"Jack?"
"Who...Who are you?"
"Oh God..."
"Stop fooling around, Jack."
"I'm not. I...I don't know who you are. Where the hell am I?"
"Crap."
"Doctor?"
"This isn't good...Let's just take him home for now."

The alarms inside the Hub were blearing, informing the four remaining members, without Jack, of Torchwood of a Rift spike.
"Tosh!"
"I'm on it, Gwen. It seems to be located..." a short pause, "Right on top of us!"
"Put on the CCTV!"
"There it is. It's a... blue Phone Box." Tosh raised here eyebrows.
Gwen and Owen looked just as confused as Tosh did, only Ianto sighed, catching their attention.
"You know what that is, Tea-Boy?" Owen asked.
Ianto nodded curtly. "I have a suspicion. Prepare yourselves, because this can't be good."
The other three looked at each other, still not understanding a thing about what Ianto said, then looked towards the lift when Ianto cleared his throat, looking expectantly at them.
"Are you all coming or what?"
Snatching up their coat or jacket, Owen, Gwen and Toshiko hurried over to the lift and let Ianto make it move. They all waited in silent curiosity, thinking about what it could be that they were about to face on the Plass.
When they arrived on the Plass, they came face to fae with a guy in a pin-striped suit and spiky hair. When the man saw them, a wide grin stretched across his face.
"Hello there! You must be Jack's team. I'm, well, I'm referred to as 'the Doctor' so that's who I am I guess."
Gwen and Tosh stared with their mouths slightly open, while Owen unconsciously took a step closer to Tosh. Ianto just rolled his eyes.
"What are you doing here, Doctor?"
The Doctor's eyes went over to him, "Ah, you must be Ianto. Jack told me a lot about you." the Doctor winked and Ianto tried to fight his blush. "Talking about Jack..." the doctor trailed off a little. "I'm bringing him back to you, but-" he held up his hand when he saw one of the girls, probably Gwen, open her mouth to speak. "He isn't quite himself..."
"What do you mean?" Owen beat Ianto with the question.
"He's, ah, kind of suffering from amnesia."
"Amnesia?" the four Torchwood members asked in unison.
"Yes," A new, female voice piped up from the doorway of the Phone Box, "Our Dear Doctor here kind of messed up with the amount of retcon he gave Jack."
"Retcon?" Ianto asked incredulously, "Why would you give him retcon for? Besides, Jack would never want that. What have you done to him?"
The Doctor looked up sharply, his eyes boring intently into Ianto's.
"You're right. Jack would never want that so I had to transfuse it into him while he was still passed out aboard my ship while we were travelling back to earth. Believe me, mr. Jones, when I say that I only did this to help Jack. Your Captain has been going through some very intense stuff the past year. Before you interrupt me, I know it wasn't a year here on earth, but it was for us. For him. I just wanted him to forget all of that, because he doesn't need to be reminded of all the hurt he's been put through. Can you understand that?"
There was silence, all waiting for Ianto's reply, who was clearly taking everything in that the Doctor just told him. Finally, he gave a tiny nod.
"Just one question," Ianto waited until the Doctor gave a nod back. "Where exactly was he?"
"On the Valiant. We were all held as prisoners there. It was Martha here who saved us all." He smiled over at the lady who had appeared out of the Tardis earlier.
"Did he die?"
"I believe he died multiple times, yes."
Ianto looked down, trying to hide the mixture of emotions running through his eyes and were probably on his face. Tosh walked over to him and put a comforting hand on his arm.
"Can we see him?" Gwen asked, having had enough of keeping her mouth shut and really wanting to see her Captain again.
The Doctor looked over at Martha and nodded to her, Martha retreated back into the Tardis and came back with a very familiar figure on her arm.
"Jack!" Gwen called out and wanted to rush over to him, but the Doctor stopped her.
"I told you, he doesn't remember you. Doesn't even remember me. I don't know how much back in time he's gone, but at least not into childhood, that's one thing I'm sure about. Maybe you lot can get it out of him, he didn't really speak very much on board of my ship. You'll have to have a lot of patience with him, but I'm sure he'll get his memory back one day, he's Jack after all." he grinned for a moment before he turned serious again, "Let's just hope he won't remember the Valiant."
"What happens if he does?" Tosh asked quietly, almost afraid of the answer.
The Doctor smiled sadly at her "Then my attempt at helping him will be lost. Now," he clapped his hands, "I can't stay here much longer, I have to get Martha home you see. Who's gonna take Jack inside?"
To all of their surprise, except maybe Ianto's, it was Tosh who walked up to Jack, talked softly to him and then took his arm to lead him towards the tourist office entrance of the Hub, Gwen and Owen following straight behind them. Ianto stayed behind a minute longer and stared at the Doctor, who leveled his stare.
"I guess I should say thank you," Ianto spoke, "But I don't like the state Jack's in right now, so it's not whole-heartedly."
"I understand," the Doctor watched as Ianto gave a nod in goodbye, then turned around to leave. "Hey!"
Ianto stopped and looked over his shoulder, raising his eyebrow in question.
"If there's one person, I strongly believe, who can bring at least all the good memories back to Jack, it's you; Ianto Jones. Take good care of him."
An emotion the Doctor couldn't quite decipher shone through Ianto's eyes and he received a sad smile from the only man, the Doctor believed, could bring the old Jack back. Slowly...But he would succeed.
Giving the salute he always gave to Jack, the Doctor retreated back into the Tardis and disappeared. Ianto now moving towards the lift, chosing the other entrance from the other Torchwood members, to face their new problem.
A problem named Jack Harkness.
