Sho could hear the jiggling-twinkling Christmas music even through his closed office door though the company party was held in the big meeting room at the exact other end of the long corridor. The mere thought of the party made him squirm in his seat uncomfortably, but more importantly, it made hard to concentrate on the charts and tables that filled the monitor of his computer.
To say he wasn’t a party-person would be the understatement of the century. He knew this about himself all his life and he was fine this way. The only bad thing was that his colleagues knew this about him too and they didn’t really tried to hide from him that they usually pooled bets on how long it will take for him to show up (if he did) or how long he’ll stay at the after-work gatherings before he excused him for the lamest reasons… But despite everything, he did show up every time, even if he hated every moment, ‘cause he knew it was the rule of society and Sakurai Sho always followed the rules! He realized long ago how unfortunate combination of character traits he had…
Sho rubbed his tired eyes before adjusting his glasses. He knew he should go out there soon but he wanted to finish his work first. That would make it a bit easier for him to bear with the drunken bunch of his colleagues. Also, his boss would kill him if he didn’t finish this report, even if most probably will lay unread on the boss’ table till the end of the holidays… But it was boss’ order!
‘Focus, Sakurai!’ he thought but just as he turned his complete attention back to his work…
His office door burst open and a tall, lanky figure stumbled in.
“This… is not the toilette…” the newcomer mumbled with honest surprise on his face. He looked around puzzled as if searching for a sign for the right direction and soon his glance fell on Sho. “Ah, Sho-chan! You’re here!” he observed happily with a cute grin. “You’re still working… Why are you still working?” he asked, his tone turning confused as he seemed to recognize the papers covering Sho’s desk.
Sho stared unblinking at the babbling man. He was a recent transfer from another branch office of the company but even someone as un-social as Sho knew Aiba Masaki. It would’ve been hard not to. The man was impossible to ignore or not to notice if he entered somewhere. He seemed to carry around his very own bunch of sunshine or what… Not to mention, he was ridiculously handsome, though Sho always tried to push this little piece of information to the back of his mind before he did or said something extremely stupid.
“Ehm… Aiba-san?...” Sho found his voice finally, eyeing the man above the ridge of his glasses. “Are you drunk?” he asked carefully, though he was pretty sure the answer should be ‘yes’.
But Aiba just blinked surprised at him silently for a while until he started to giggle breathily.
“Nooo…! Or maybe yes?...” he replied still giggling and stumbled closer to Sho’s desk. “But you didn’t answer me. Why are you still working, Sho-chan?” he repeated his question from before.
Sho tried hard not to blush when his colleague addressed him as ‘Sho-chan’ for the second time. It sounded really intimate as if they were close; friends or even… Sho cleared his throat, and forced himself to turn his attention back to the actual topic.
“I have to finish this report for boss. I was working on this whole week. I’d really like to be finished finally… I haven’t slept in four days… And all this noise…” Sho blabbed complaining without properly thinking what he was saying.
“Four days? You haven’t slept in four days?!” Aiba cried out interrupting Sho’s speech. “That’s unacceptable! It’s not healthy! You have to come out of here and relax a bit. You more than deserve a beer! Or two… Or even three! Everybody’s out there. Come!” Aiba said suddenly determined and grabbed Sho’s hand to drag him out of his hiding place personally.
The sudden shock of skin contact cause Sho to let himself be pulled out of his seat but when he realized what Aiba’s intention was, he stop abruptly and refused to take another step to the door. Aiba was new in their office so he probably still didn’t hear everything about his… ‘status’ here; and he seemed to be a really nice guy… So Sho would hate to be the reason why Aiba becomes a social outcast as well… Also, he thought it was dangerous for him to hold Aiba’s hand any longer. It made his skin tingle deliciously and…
“Ehm… Aiba-san…” Sho cleared his throat once again, adjusting his glasses on his nose he tried to avoid eye contact with his bouncy colleague. “Not sure if you could tell but… I’m not exactly a… people person… So… you should probably just… stay away from me… Like everyone else does…” he finished mumbling and winced inwardly when he realized how bitter he actually sounded.
Aiba’s eyes were still clouded by alcohol but the way he looked at Sho… It was affectionate, even adoring… Aiba shuffled closer to Sho.
“I’ll tell you a secret… I don’t wanna stay away from Sho-chan…” he said whispering. “I wanted to get to know Sho-chan for a while…” he added with twinkling eyes.
“Eh?” Sho felt his eyes budging as he stared at the other man. “Why?”
“’Cause Sho-chan’s cute!” Aiba answered simply with a bright smile before quickly pecking Sho’s cheek.
“Cute?” Sho squeaked out startled by feeling Aiba’s lips on his skin. He was so shocked, he couldn’t even feel stupid for giving one-word replies only.
“Yeah, just like now” Aiba said giggling. “Come, let’s join the party!”
“I don’t know…” Sho said, still inwardly cringing from the idea of joining the party and he carefully slipped his hand free from Aiba’s hold.
“But you have to! It’s my birthday!” Aiba insisted, grabbing Sho’s hand again and tugging on it for emphasis.
“Your birthday? Really?” Sho asked back surprised but making sure to file this little piece of information about Aiba for later use.
Aiba flushed red and scratched the back of his neck, suddenly embarrassed.
“Well… Okay, actually my birthday is not today but on Christmas Eve…” he admitted blushing. “But it’s a Christmas party so that’s close enough, right? Right?” he added quickly as an explanation; his smile returning full-force, temporary blinding Sho. “So, will you come with me now?”
“Yeah…” Sho was almost shocked when he heard himself agreeing before he had the chance to even think.
“Good! Then tomorrow you can take me on a date too!” Aiba allowed graciously with a radiant smile.
For the second time, Sho agreed without thinking but this time, he couldn’t mind it at all…

A/N: it took a long time to post another story, sorry!! I actually finished this a while ago but I couldn't come up with a title to it 😅 it felt a bit weird to write a Christmas themed story in the middle of summer but I thought it would be a fun setting to the requested lines. I hope you enjoy it 😊
