35 U-Kiss Fic Challenge Prompt: 25. Paperclips [Kibum/Kibum]
Warnings: Awful!English
Author's Notes: This is a fic inspired by my friend, who was a bit Kibum-like, the first time (not to be taken literally) I saw her concentrated, focused look :D
Kibum urgently needed paper clips. Since it was his birthday the next day, it seemed only logical to get someone to buy it for him.
"Kevin, give me paper clips for my birthday." Kibum demanded, not even guilty about not getting the younger boy anything on his birthday.
Kevin isn't petty, nor does he hold grudges. He hummed a reply, nodding and probably making a mental note to visit a bookstore later.
Kibum continued life as usual, though postponing his work till tomorrow, when he would have his paper clips.

Kibum chuckled lowly at the present Kevin got him.
The younger cut out his name in English from a piece of black paper, and accessorised it with paper clips of various colours. It was pasted onto a light blue paper and then placed in a clear folder. Simple, but thoughtful.
Kibum tried to be as careful as possible when getting the paper clips out, all fifty of them. It wouldn't be nice to ruin Kevin's sincere present.
Kevin strolled in to the dormitory to see Kibum arranging pieces of paper of the coffee table, who probably already saw his present. He looked a little closer, noticing that his (dismantled) present was placed away from the mess, on the sofa behind along with a laptop.
Curious as to why the older would need paper clips, he sat on the opposite end of the table and watched Kibum sort out the papers. Kibum gave him a small smile to acknowledge his presence, but got back to his busy mode a second later.
They were all related to HnB company, Kevin noticed, seeing the logo on the top left corner. The contents ranged from orders to finance, but there were also some designs for a new character, and three pages worth of complementary colours.
Silently, he rested his head on his arm, watching Kibum work with the order form first. He was arranging the orders alphabetically, keying in all the information following the names.
"Couldn't you get one of the few workers you have to do these?" Kevin broke the silence, curiously wondering.
"I could." Kibum smiled. "But it's better for me to know where the products are popular in, what kind of customers I am selling to, and what products they want. Head-rest, slippers or whatever else, so I could produce something similar."
Kevin thought about it for a moment, agreeing with Kibum’s logic. "But you could get your workers to collate too?"
"Kevin..." Kibum chuckled with a shake of his head. "You're so lazy."
Kibum finally finished sorting the orders after an hour, hammering his back with a fist in hopes of soothing the ache. Picking out a pretty blue paper clip, he then secured the stack together before leaving it aside.
As if finally understanding Kibum's request, Kevin took one of the many blue paper clips left on the table to better secure the papers. It wouldn't be nice to mess it all up.
Kibum hummed a word of thanks, already starting on calculating the profits for the month, whether there was an increase of price in materials and if the manufacturers were doing fine for their latest order. He mentally reminded himself to check each product carefully before packaging them for shipping and mailing, even scribbling on his own hand just in case he forgets.
He looked focused, eyes scanning the paper and adding it up mentally in his head once before keying it into the calculator if it didn't make sense. The slight wrinkle between those furrowed eyebrows could well be an artistic impression of the older male, Kevin thought. Kevin often joked that Kibum was a freeloader, probably letting Hyungjoon-hyung do everything while he fools around. Instead, Kibum looked so much more mature now, as if all settled down for a real man's business, The younger feels like he committed a grave sin for actually doubting the older male in his heart.
Mathematics, even if it's just addition, usually made Kibum's head spin. To sit through so many numbers without a complaint was a first for Kevin. He smiled at the older male, standing up while asking Kibum if he would like a drink.
"That'd be great. I'm fine with anything." The older smiled gratefully, while Kevin quickly went to get the drink.
When the younger returned with two cups of milk, Kibum thanked him and took a sip before returning to the money matters.
It took him half an hour to finish up what he was doing, clipping all related notes yet again, this time with a yellow one. Kevin stared at the papers in Kibum's hand, causing the older male to chuckle and nod, adding another yellow paper clip to be safe.
Kevin grinned sheepishly, and finally saw a chance to talk freely when Kibum took out new designs he had been working on.
"What are these?" The younger asked curiously.
Kibum explained patiently, the new character's role in the fantasy world he created, the rationale of it, and even the shape of the new design.
He looked genuinely excited in every part of his explanation, and Kevin could almost see the other's dreams spill out of his mouth. Kibum was just so good at describing, his forte and his hobby.
"Oh, why don't I just draw you one? Now that I have inspiration..." Kibum smiled, picking up a pencil and roughly forming a shape.
He took another five minutes to add in details, before presenting it to Kevin with a cheeky glint in his eyes.
Kevin burst out into laughter, seeing a childlike drawing of a fish with a paper clip fin by its side. "What is it called?"
"Let me think..." Kibum grinned, tapping his chin twice before flashing his two sets of white teeth. "KevinKevin!"
Kevin rolled his eyes jokingly, not saying a word but folding the piece of paper carefully such that the fish was still in a perfect condition without any ugly creases. He kept it in his wallet, and when his head was raised, Kibum was already working on the character he had been talking about.
Perfecting the contours, erasing, redrawing, erasing, redrawing. Kevin's eyes got tired and shifted to look around the table, noticing condensed water from the cold cup of milk dangerously inching towards Kibum's sketches.
Hurriedly getting up, he reached for pieces of tissue paper and quickly dropped them on the table to soak up the water. Kibum noticed what he was doing and mumbled a word of thanks before checking his work.
"You're a lifesaver." Kibum sighed in relief, and Kevin was glad he could be of help.
Finally deciding to leave Kibum to do what he does best, he turned back once more and smiled. Kibum had roughly coloured three sketches with three different pairs of complementary colours, now trying to choose the best as a trail.
The fixated gaze, the concentrated look, the zoning out were all parts of the Kibum's nature. Only that he didn't think he could see the charisma the older had on stage elsewhere.
Guess he was wrong.
Kevin's happy to buy paper clips for the older. Something so insignificant surprised him, again.

I know, it doesn’t seem like a Kibum-centric story. I was trying to write Kibum-centric from someone else’s point of view, and all the interaction with Kevin was to show Kibum’s personality, not Kemaru. Just saying.
(Oh, and I gave this to Kibum (too) :3)
