So... This was actually supposed to be part of his birthday dedication, but I got trolled by real life? Gomen, Captain >.< A SMAPPY angel found this article and I thought it was a pretty interesting read. This writer gives his thoughts on the two Japanese people he feels are truly the representatives of their era: the Japanese soccer player Kingu ( Read more... )

Kimura is such a stunning actor! There are just a very few guys within JE whose drama I watch - not only because of them - but also because of the plot and of their character portrayal. I totally forget that it's a JE-guy playing in a drama then. <3

I still need to watch Priceless though, but I'll do so soon :D
How do you like it so far?

Ratings of Kimura-dramas are always so good! I mean, yes, he isn't that kind of a huge legend anymore like he was years ago, but this guy still has it. It's still Kimura. ♥

I would say that he may not be as popular as in the 90´s and 00´s, but instead he became in between a legend.

He is, isn't he? xDDDDD And, so true about the JE-guy comment~ ♥ Captain is definitely one of them whom I always see as "actor first and idol second" in his dramas. His acting is so nuanced and detailed that I just get so emotionally attached to his characters, who are always memorable and well-loved ( ... )

Thank you for translation of the article, it is very interesting. Especially about him becoming now some kind guardian figure in minds.

I enjoy watching "Priceless", too. More that I thought i will. Great acting from the cast and a lot of brilliant dialogues - smart and funny. We are doing Russian sub for it now - with a help of a friend who knows Japanese pretty well, so it helps to understand detailes of their conversations better.

Thank you, we are doind well, finished 7th episode already.
I like in Priceless that it is not only funny and heartwarming, but clever and deep if you just think what they speak about and what conflicts they have in the story these are in fact very serious matters about wrong priorities and values in modern life, the things that I think about a lot myself in my everyday life.

'He isn't just an existence that has become a role model for his juniors in the Johnnys Agency, but also an idol that people aim towards, people throughout the nation, not limited to the young boys; a deity of the younger generation.'

... i love it... so true... :-D

Kimura san and Long life in memory peggybrad December 20 2012, 20:25:17 UTC
Strange that I find this page right now. I was thinking two minutes ago that I had so much saved on my computer all about Kimura. Indeed I was about to go searching for 'Otouto' which I had found long ago and I wanted to see this young boy one more time. Then I realized that all my early stuff about him, including photos, had been lost. I have had several computers since 1990 and one time a tchnician took the computer into the shop over three days. When it came back he had lost so much that I could have hit him over the head very easily. It has taken a long time to search and find things again. However, I soon realized that Kimura does not go out of my memory. I can still see his face and remember his scenes even in 'Otouto'. He is quite unforgettable in all his dramas. He has the ability to impress himself into your mind. I find it easy to see that his fellow Japanese, both men and women, would see him in an even stronger way. Their way of life would be impacted by the way he appears in dramas as well as his abilities in his ( ... )

Thank you for your lovely comment~

Oh my~ *empathetic* I feel for you about the files~ I now back up my SMAP files religiously because I too faced this once and was completely devastated...

But, yes, so true~ ♥ Even without re-watching his dramas, he has an incredible talent to create memorable characters that are forever imprinted into our hearts and minds. We are a whole world, an entirely different language, away from him, and yet, he still impacts us in such an unimaginably way. Truly, as you have pointed out, I can only imagine what it would be like if I was a fellow Japanese. Captain is truly someone whose talents and incredible presence transcend the barrier of cultures and languages.

A living legend. ♥
