Ohisashiburi desu ♥ And, a lil translation...

So... This was actually supposed to be part of his birthday dedication, but I got trolled by real life? Gomen, Captain >.< A SMAPPY angel found this article and I thought it was a pretty interesting read. This writer gives his thoughts on the two Japanese people he feels are truly the representatives of their era: the Japanese soccer player Kingu Kazu and none other than our own Kimura Takuya.

And, here is a translation of the part of the article that talks about Captain~ ♥

Representative (people in the spotlight) of their era. From Kimura Takuya back-to-back to Kingu Kazu (a Japanese soccer player).

As usual, in this season of autumn dramas, crime/investigation dramas and medical procedurals get high ratings.

The youth group genre dramas and trendy romance dramas that used to be popular has seen an end to their era of popularity. Similarly, it is a time when dramas that portray lifestyle (reflect real life) find it hard to break through the 20% mark even when they rely on additional topics, like topics on romance, daily life, family, to diversify/distinguish them.

1996's "Long Vacation", 1997's "Love Generation", 2000's "Beautiful Life", 2001's "HERO", 2007's "Karei Naru Ichizoku" - all of these dramas starred Kimura Takuya (39) in the leading role and got monstrous ratings. "Karei Naru", in its final episode, got a rating close to 40%.

[Karei Naru Ichizoku ratings: 30.4%, Average; 39.3%, Peak (Kantou) and 35.5%, Average; 44.9% Peak (Kansai).]

By the way, in this age, no matter who the leading star is, if the plot is not interesting or the script is not good, people will not watch the drama.

Competency in the screenplay and the production values/direction of the drama also holds an immense weight. In other words, returning to these criteria can be said to be the starting point of making a drama.

[NOTE: I think what the writer is trying to say is that, despite his dramas not following the current trend, his dramas are still highly rated. On top of that, in this day and age when big named stars don't always bring good ratings, he's the exception who has performed consistently for his dramas. xD]

"PRICELESS ~ Aru Wake Ne Darou Sonna Mon ~" a drama with a comedic-touch starring Kimura has gained a high-level of attention. When we see how Kimura is now, we can see how the way idols are have changed.

At the peak of his popularity, he gained a high level of attention from the public and became a much admired existence regardless of people's age or gender; with his way of life as a guy, the decisions he makes in his life, he became a leader in opinion, and now, as can be seen, he has been put in a guardian (deity/god-like) position.

He isn't just an existence that has become a role model for his juniors in the Johnnys Agency, but also an idol that people aim towards, people throughout the nation, not limited to the young boys; a deity of the younger generation.

In the entertainment industry, it is said that even when you become popular, even when you become society's favourite person, the time that you can have an active career is short.

Since his debut in his 10s, and now close to reaching his 40s, he has constantly/continuously been at the top. He, who has carried his feverish popularity as an idol into the adult society, now still holding on to his high position, is the top runner; an existence that has become the goal that people aim to towards.
