"Let's see...where is it?" Judging by the address given, it seemed that the building was only a few blocks away from Akira's home.
His head swayed left and right and his gaze focused entirely on the piece of paper. Unfortunately, that proved to be a wrong move because by doing so, he never did realized a person walking straight towards him, carrying two large paper bag full of groceries.
Both had then knocked each other down, the contents toppled away from the bags.
“Ah! I’m so sorry!” Akira sat up with a hand on his head and glanced at the mess. He reached for the closest items before standing on his knees to reach for the others.
“It’s alright…I guess I didn’t watch where I was going.” The blonde suddenly tilted his head over to the person. He had shoulder-length pallid blond hair, dark brown eyes, and a thin feminine figure. He wore a thick ebony coat over worn blue jeans and brown boots.
And very attractive, he might add. One could mistaken him for a girl. (For Akira, it was a second or two, considering he did spoke back).
Feeling a blush coming on, he hung his head and simply put everything back into the two bags. “Alright,…that should be the last of them.”
“Thanks for helping….eh?” Spotting the small yellow paper Akira had unexpectedly dropped, he picked it up and asked, “This is yours, right?”
He glanced at the address with widened eyes. “You’re going to the University Asylum?”
“You know the place?” he asked curiously.
The taller man smiled and waved the paper with a hand. “I work there.” Realization suddenly dawned on him. “Oh! You must be Suzuki Akira, right?”
Akira couldn’t help but nodded dumbly due to the other man’s reaction. Okay…how did he know?
“Everyone’s been talking about it. Well, we’ve all known about Takanori’s condition and Kai informed us that you’ll be coming by today! Though I didn’t expect to bump in to you.”
“Uh…huh.” The blonde nodded once more as he reached for the paper. “So…I guess I should be going.”
Just when he was about to leave, the tall man called, “Wait! I’m heading there too!”
Picking up one bag into his arms, he then smiled and asked, “Uh…do you think you can also help me?”
“Oh…sure, I guess.” Akira shrugged as he headed back to assist.
“Great! I knew I could count on you!”
“But I hardly know you. Hell, I don’t even know your name.” the younger man frowned in reply.
“Ahh…sorry, sorry. I guess I forgot to introduce myself. Name’s Uruha. Pleased to make your acquaintance, Akira-kun.”
“And I think this is the time where I’d say please don’t call me Akira. Despite the fact that people keep calling me Akira, I’d prefer to be called by the name Reita.” The blonde said, frowning still. The only people he could tolerate with when called by his real name was family and very close friends. None other. The time where Kai called was one of the very few times he allowed to be called Akira because it was necessary.
“I see. Well then, Reita-kun, shall we head over to the asylum? I was supposed to be there fifteen minutes ago because Kai kept whining about needing more ingredients for lunch.” Uruha patted the bag with a hand, grinning slightly.
“Oh,…sorry, I didn’t think I kept you from heading there on time.”
“No, no, I was doing it on purpose anyway. I kinda wanted Kai to give off, oh…at least a little negative reaction. Frown, pout, that sort of thing. Almost all the time, he is happy and smiling, you know?”
Akira, or Reita as he would have it, raised a brow and thought, ‘He’s almost like a sadist or something.’
“…I see. That’s…interesting to know.” he slowly replied, shifting the bag a bit.
Uruha laughed lightly. “Is it now? Well, he is easier to tease than Aoi. He takes things way too seriously.”
“Aoi?”
“Yeah, the doctor in charge. I’m one of his assistants.” He sighed suddenly. “I just wish he lay off work once in a while. I wonder if he ever got stressed or tired because of it. Day in, day out, always sticking around in the building. Doesn’t go on breaks. He always had me get something for him. And I don’t think I’ve ever seen him go home.”
'Sounds like a workaholic to me.' Reita thought as he nodded comprehensively.
"So yeah...wow, I've forgotten that it was Autumn already. The view is very nice." The taller man commented suddenly changing the subject.
Reita glanced around. Indeed, it was a pretty sight. Rows of trees now had thick manes of green with hints of red, gold, and brown. A sign of the start of Autumn. The dirt ground was free of grass and the likes. Children also roamed around, playing various games.
'Of course. It's the park, after all.'
"We're here!" Uruha pointed towards a white two-story building that took up half the block besides the edge of the park.
"So that's the asylum..." Reita muttered.
Uruha simply nodded and headed off. The short blonde then followed the other into the building.
Once inside, he scanned around. Clean and simple was his first thought. Everything was white, except the ivory color of the carpet and the blood red color of the plush couches sitting in the center of the room.
The tall man trotted to the information desk with a wide grin. "Kai-chan~! I got everything you asked for!"
Reita watched as the brunette sitting behind the desk blink once at the estatic person in front of him before frowning.
"You're late, Uruha. I was waiting 20 minutes for you. You even got Aoi to whine." he said, tidying up the papers a bit.
"Ehhh? I did? Oh my god!" Uruha exclaimed, feeling quite accomplished.
"Yes, yes, yes, good for you." Kai waved a hand absentmindedly. Turning to Reita, he asked, "Oh? Are you Akira-kun?"
'How does everyone know that?' he grumbled inwardly as he nodded in response.
"Ne, Kai-chan. Akira-kun wanted to be called by Reita-kun." The tall blonde said.
'Thank you very much. Saves me from explaining.'
"Ah, I see. Reita-kun, Aoi is expecting you. Head on to the right of the hallway and his office should be at the end." Kai explained. "You can give the bag to Uruha."
Staring at the bag in his arms, he nodded. "Oh, right."
He passed it to Uruha and headed off, thanking them on the way. Walking by, he reached the end. That was when he heard a voice.
"Come on in."
'Is he psychic or what?' Reita thought as he turned the knob and pushed the door open. There, behind a desk filled with neat stacks of paper sat a man with ebony hair and dark eyes behind a set of thin-rimmed glasses. There was also a small black lip ring wrapped around his lower lip. Doctors nowadays wear lip-rings?
"You must be Suzuki Akira-san, yes?" Aoi smiled.
Reita slowly nodded, not bothering to say anything about his name anymore. It was getting bothersome, anyway.
The dark-haired man stood up and walked towards him. "Nice to meet you. I'm Aoi, the doctor in charge. I'm glad you arrived."
"Um...is there any chance I could...see Takanori?" the blonde asked, a little hesistant and straight to the point.
Aoi nodded. "Of course. That's why you're here, isn't it? Follow me."
Reita followed the older man to the other end of the hall, which was quite longer than the other side. Then, taking the elevator at the end, they reached the second floor. Aoi soon led him to the room besides the elevator, smiling sadly.
"It's very sad to see him in such a state. He hadn't move since he was brought here."
The younger man peered through the window, eyebrows raised.
There he is...there's Ruki.
