“What’s his condition, Doctor?”

“I’m afraid he’s severely traumatized by the murder of his parents that he lost his will to speak nor…live, for that matter. Also, it seemed that he forced his mind to shut off any memories he had. Friends…family…everything forgotten.”

“Poor guy. It must be really hard for him.”

“Yes, very hard indeed.”

“He witnessed everything that night, didn’t he? And with his condition, it would be difficult to gather information about the murder. Has anyone been contacted about this situation?”

“Yes, their neighbour, who also happened to be very close friends with his family, just came back from their trip about two days ago…a week after it occurred. As for relatives, we unfortunately were not able to locate them yet.”

“Oh wait, I just heard that his neighbour had a son close his age. Maybe he might be able to help him recover. What do you think?”

“Hm…yes, that might work. If you will, can you please give him a call tomorrow and ask him to come over to the asylum to see his friend?”

“Of course, Doctor.”

The doctor and his assistant sadly watched the young teen through the thick window pane.

“Let’s just hope he will get through this.”

A loud shrilled ringing was heard throughout the white two-story house the next day around ten in the morning.

It rang once,…twice,…and by the third ring, a small hand reached for the phone.

“Hello? Who is this?....Oh, you want to speak with my brother? Okay” Covering the receiver with another small hand, a young girl turned towards the living room and called, “Onii-chan! Someone wants to talk to you!”

Her brother, who was napping with an open textbook obscuring his face, leisurely reached for the edge of the cover and dragging it down, revealing half-lidded ebony eyes. Pushing up into a sitting position, he then stretched his arms in the air before moving away from the couch and dropping the book on the small wooden table in front of him.

“Onii-chan!”

“Coming, coming” he yawned, trotting over to his sister. Picking up the phone, he patted her head in thanks and raised it to his ear. “Hello?”

“Hello? Are you Suzuki Akira?” A light voice greeted.

“Yes, I’m Akira. Is there anything you need?”

“Oh, great. I’m Kai and I’m calling from the University Asylum. I…well, I like to know if you know the event that happened a week ago. About your friend, Matsumoto Takanori.”

Blinking in shock, he quickly asked, “Do you know where he is?”

“Yes, he is currently in our care but he is not responding to anything we’ve done. We like to know if you would be willing to assist in helping your friend recover.” Kai responded softly.

“Of course. I’ll do whatever it takes to help.” he immediately replied. He didn’t bother hiding his anxiety over his long-time friend. As soon as he found out about the incident, he felt so worried because by the time he and his family returned home, Takanori just…disappeared.

“Mm, that’s very good to know. I’ll give you the address, okay?” The other man asked.

“Oh, wait one moment.” Reaching the small mahogany cabinet beneath the phone, he pulled the door open and pulled out a black pen and a bright yellow notepad. He placed the diminutive booklet on the surface and said, “Alright. Whenever you’re ready.”

“Okay, the address is…”

Akira quickly scribbled the address before thanking him. And before he hanged up, Kai gave him one last message. “Please do whatever you can to help Takanori-san. He had been through enough hell.”

Glancing one-sidedly at the phone, he slowly nodded. “…I will. Bye.”

He then ripped out the address from the pad and shoved it into his back pocket as he rushed over to the door, picking up his thin black jacket on the way.

Upon swinging the door, he called, "I'll be going out for a while. Be back soon!"

"Take care!" echoed his mother, followed by a "Take care! Take care!" from his sister.

Akira smiled lightly and shut the door behind him.
