The trolls nowadays... I disapprove.

Considering the whole Kate/Eli kerfluffle from from a little while ago (and the fact that I keep stubbornly requesting Eli/Kate on comment_fic), I'm pretty certain someone just tried to troll me hereIt's pretty mild trolling, all things considered. But if you're going to troll me, at least have the decency to write the actual break-up. Because I read "Kate' ( Read more... )

Trolling has become a lost art of the internet. :( Nobody is very good at it anymore.

for the less experienced with this sort of thing, could someone explain what trolling is?
Is it a particular kind of fic where someone breaks up, or some sort of dishonest action. Sounds like it could be either...

It's a type of dishonest activity.

I shall quote Wikipedia:
In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into a desired emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.
I was referring to this as "trolling" because of a kerfluffle recently in my LJ (the locked explanation is a couple posts down) about how someone argued in bad faith that I and another person were "pushing" this particular pairing on people who didn't like it. The other person who was accused wrote an LJ post calling out the bad faith arguer as a liar and got flamed to high hell for it. I'm casting doubt on the coincidence of a bare two weeks after that blow-up someone, who has no friends, no interests, and no posts, responding to a prompt where I requested that exact pairing and writing a fic where the pairing breaks up. It seemed to me like someone was posting ( ... )

sad... you are right to be upset about that!
Thanks for the explanation.

So... from what I gather, the initial promt-filler seems to see Eli/Kate as an emotionally abusive relationship... If this is a sockpuppet of the LJer (or even among the set of LJers) I think it might be, don't... don't they prefer Kate with a waaaay older dude while she's still a teenager? Cuz shoot man, Eli as leader aside, at least when he and Kate quarrel, they're on pretty even ground--not the least because she gives back just as good O_o What happens when Kate and Clint or Bucky fight over something, and how is that not far more likely grounds for potential emotional abuse and upset power dynamics? Geh.

I like the second prompt fill you got though :3

... Yes. If it's the person I was guessing it is-- she pretty much said as much in my journal, in fact.

I don't even know. Somehow it's more abusive when they're nominally equals because... they yell and scream at each other more often than Clint or Bucky yell or scream at Kate?

Me too! I was all keyboardsmashy over it. :D

It's so hard when people ask for pairings you don't like! Just impossible! You have to STAND UP FOR JUSTICE by being a douchebag about them.

Anonymously. STANDING UP FOR JUSTICE ANONYMOUSLY.

Not that I mind anonymous trolling! I'd just prefer it to be creative anonymous trolling.
