God, Supernatural fandom, just STOP. Please! I was already in over-analyze mode from thinking thinky thoughts about race and gender in Heroes and comics and stuff and now THIS?

Okay, yes. Katie Cassidy got caught underage drinking. Yes, she gave them someone else's name. When called on it she immediately apologized and said she'd done it ( Read more... )

Hear, hear. Seriously. She didn't do anything seriously bad, got caught, didn't handle perfectly. But guys, just because you hate a character does not necessarily mean you get to hate the actress! And just because you hate the casting of a character does not mean you get to use every time the actress has a zit or looks bad in the press to call for recasting. Oh, the rolleyes. And that's before we even go into why people hate the character in the first place...

Because she's a vagina! On our show about manly men fixing cars and shooting things in the face! There should be no recurring vaginas on our manly show! Except Ellen, because she's old and not a threat.

Except that LOLno. Samantha Ferris is, like, the hottest woman alive. But don't mind my crush.

I get thinking she's kind of a dip, that's fine. But what's with the outpouring of hate? Seriously. Everyone's always happy-flaily-hands over J2's bar fight and to me that's a bit worse than getting kind of drunk in a car with someone else driving.

I don't really care one way or another about Katie but I do really disagree with this. As far as we know, it wasn't their fault that they were outnumbered by a bunch of drunk idiots who thought they did something that they didn't and they didn't get into any legal trouble over it. It's not so much underage drinking but moreso getting caught creating actual legal trouble (as opposed to choosing to tell the story in interviews) and actually lying to a cop over it (yeah she was scared but it's still a stupid move to make). It doesn't help that her mom's attitude shown here is exactly what's wrong with actors getting into trouble because they seem to think that their job should get them out of it easier than other people and unfortunately they're usually right.

Well, then how about the fact that Jensen's admitted to stealing sports equipment? Even if he didn't get arrested for it, it's STILL rather worse, IMO, than getting drunk a week and a half before her birthday and saying something stupid to a cop while drunk.

Stupidity =/= horrible person. Mother being overprotective or stupid ALSO =/= horrible person. The fact that people are acting like she's a terrible person (and ruing SPN's reputation, WTF) for doing something stupid that will probably get her a slap on the wrist in court at most is ridiculous.

Also, if you're going to argue, 70.92.3.87, at least be a mensch about it and sign your name. Otherwise you look like a coward.

I can see that-- someone pointed out on F_W that she's probably on SmokingGun and PerezHilton because she's David Cassidy's daughter, not because of SPN. So, to an extent I can see that. But most people in Supernatural fandom, or at least a good portion of those spewing venom, seem to be taking the "she's not high profile, I don't even know who she is" tack.

It is interesting, and in some ways it explains some of the discrepancy between the way the J2 barfight story and this were recieved. (and, IIRC, there was an interview a while back where Jared or Jensen essentially admitted to B&E or shoplifting or something but would give details because he "didn't know if the statute of limitations was up"-- no one made a flap about that either.)

Yeah, but someone pointed out in the F_W post about it-- think about the reaction if Jared had told a story about how, when he was a few weeks shy of his 21st birthday he got drunk in a friends car and when the cop pulled them over he got so freaked he gave a friend's name and birthday-- but got the age mixed up and got called on it! Everyone would have gone all flaily-armed over how CUTE it must have been.

I don't know if women want to see women in shit, but i do think people often see it as more shocking, and following the "if it bleeds, it leads" shock style of reporting, anyhting that seems "more shocking" is probably going to end up being reported on more often. Blargh double standards.

She wasn't even driving! It's just... augh. You're not in the fandom so I don't think you've seen the extent of the venom over this, but if you want to see why I was spazzng, Fandom_Wank has a pretty good (if biased) overview.

... I am so far behind on "Supernatural" I can't even think about it. But it was either "Supernatural" or Trisk meetings, and Trisk meetings have been leading to a (very slim) possibility of sex.

Not that "Supernatural" isn't sex. But... It's different.

Heh. I understand that. When my GF's around, Supernatural totally gets me laid, though. :D

But really you don't have to be watching the show to get this-- Katie Cassidy is a recurring guest star who has some... ahem... tension with Sam. And plays basically a kick ass, if possibly Mary-Sueish character. She's also 20, relatively pretty, and blond. She did something stupid, fans are dumping on her for it-- for probably the reasons you can imagine. (That's her in my icon)

Before the season BEGAN people were dumping on teh character. Katie called them jealous and they hated her more. Personally, I think she called 'em like she saw 'em.
