Thoughts before SE Announces Future of "Final Fantasy XIII" Series
It's the 31st of August here, but in Japan, it should already be September 1st: the fated day when Square Enix celebrates 25 brilliant years of Final Fantasy... and announces the new direction for the Final Fantasy XIII series.
So basically I'm super-excited and deathly scared about this announcement. I really wanna know, but at the same time, I really don't want to know...
What happened to Hope, Noel, Moogle, Sazh, Hope, Hope, Hope, and all the other people inhabiting the world when the Chaos burst through Valhalla!? Where the heck is Snow!? Did Vanille and Fang awaken from their crystal sleep!? Did Bhunivelze awaken too!? Can Serah still be saved!? Was Yeul actually a villain!? IS LIGHTNING OKAY!!?
I wanna know, I do... but I'm so scared to hear answers like "All the formers characters will be gone except for Lightning." Knowing the crazy mind of Toriyama Motomu, it's dangerously possible. XD
There's barely any information about what to expect, but I've got a few ideas. First, I'm pretty sure Lightning will be playable again, but who knows if past characters like Hope or Fang will join the party too. The secret ending to "Requiem of the Goddess" shows Lightning walking through what appears to be Dying World, approximately "XXX Years Later". What does that mean? Well, even if it took her hundreds of years to awaken from her sleep, the world would not change. Now that Valhalla has merged with the visible world, time has ceased to exist. People cannot age; death and life are merely illusions.
However, my biggest concern is the Chaos. How did it affect the living world? What has it done to the past and the people? For all we know, Lightning could be fighting this last battle on her own. But I strongly pray that a new, friendly character will not be introduced. Yes, Noel was great and Caius was an awesome villian. BUT NO MORE!!! Leave the new characters, bring back the old! I want to play with Hope again!! I want Snow and Fang and Sazh too! FFXIII-2 was a great game, but I'm positive that one of the biggest criticisms was the absence of past playable characters, especially Lightning. So I'm very confident that Lightning will be back, but will the others be too..?
But the main reason why I do not want a new character is HopeXLightning. XD Apparently this new saga is supposed to make Lightning truly happy. If that's the case, I don't want some new male character to come swooping in and randomly stealing her heart. NOOOOO~!!! Lightning belongs with Hope and Hope belongs with Lightning! I swear, if Toriyama and Kitase do anything to tear this beautiful couple apart, they will in turn find themselves torn apart by yours truly. And I'm not the only one. There are thousands, literally thousands of HopeXLight fans. Appeal to that fanbase and SE will have themselves a very successful game. No lie. There's absolutely NO WAY the creators of FFXIII can stay blissfully unaware of the popularity of HopeXLightning. For crying out loud, go to Pixiv and look up "FF13" fanarts. Pretty much 50% of every page features Hope and Lightning together. And that's only counting the fans who have the talent to draw! There are plenty of loyal fans like me who cheer for HopeXLight behind the public stage. Toriyama can't ignore us! If he does, he's a bastard of an idiot!!
And yes, not everyone is a fan of HopeXLightning, I'm aware of that. So with keeping that group in mind, my wish is simple. HopeXLightning doesn't have to be official. If there will be a third game, it doesn't have to feature their love. However, don't put Lightning with another man and don't put Hope with another woman. Keep them both open, but kinda hint at their potential relationship. Give us some more fanservice. That's all I ask, Square Enix.
