Okay first off, being PC is to CALL the person out by their identifier. It's PC to say "African-American" what's NOT PC is saying "Black" or a term that's considered "wrong". Black is considered "wrong" because that identifies the color of their skin, not where their ancestors came from. And in all probability the MAJORITY of Blacks are simply ( Read more... )

Whenever you hear that someone else has been successful, rejoice. Always practice rejoicing for others--whether your friend or your enemy. If you cannot practice rejoicing, no matter how long you live, you will not be happy.

-Lama Zopa Rinpoche, "Transforming Problems Into Happiness

Dearest Jeannie,

You sound bitter and angry. Deeply angry. Not just about the election but about everything, every time I speak to you.

You requested that your friends explain to you their perspective and when they did you bit their heads off. It's rather like a homeowner who invites you to their property then shoots you for trepassing. You are better than that.

If you want to have people listen to, and respect, your opinion you need to offer your ear and listen respectfully. If you want to HAVE a friend you need to BE a friend. You are correct, if someone doesn't like how you conduct your journal they have the option to defriend you, but if you care so little about the point of view of those whom you claim as "friends" then set your journal to private and rant away.

The point to having a friends list is to exchange information, ideas and emotions-to CONNECT. Just because something has been your experience doesn't mean that it's the same experience everyone else is having. (see James's comment)

Jeannie, I know you have a good heart but everything isn't always about you. Stop thinking about yourself, your problems, your opinions and try, truly try, to listen with an open heart to someone else. Listen twice as much as you speak. Open your heart, search for the humanity in others, try and find a connection with every person you meet or hope to meet (yes, even Barack Obama) or you will find yourself very alone.

With love,
Monica
