Summary: Naruto doesn't just not give up. He dares to dream.

Naruto was more determined than anyone.

Most people believed that Sasuke would never come back to Konoha, and would die a missing nin at the hands of ANBU operatives. Kakashi, Sai, and Tsunade all had some hope: maybe Sasuke would die by Naruto's hand, or he would realize there was nothing left after Itachi and disappear even further into the masses of people and trees that was the fire country. Sakura thought he might be caught by ANBU, brought in for questioning, allowed time to sit in confinement. They would seal his chakra, and she and Naruto could visit him, talk to him, slowly bring him back to himself. Maybe, and most likely, she thought, he would stay out there fighting until he finally went blind and she and Naruto would be his only home, caring for the bitter, resolved remains of a great warrior. She wasn't sure he could ever be happy, but she was sure they would be there for him. He was so stubborn...

Then there was Naruto.

At night, Naruto dreamed of Sasuke living in his small apartment: smiling, cooking, sometimes singing, laughing and taking out the trash, making the bed and watching television. Naruto would laugh with him and laugh at him, nag him, sing off key to piss him off, make his favorite foods, stink up the bathroom, go grocery shopping and bring back ten tomatoes. They would smile and yell and cry, but it would be comfortable and familiar and real. The brothers would be home and together.

Sometimes Naruto's dreams were more audacious than normal. (Or maybe it was just that all he thought about was Sasuke and sometimes he was just horny on top of it - but then why didn't he dream of Sakura?) But there were nights where, in his dreams, one of them got tired of sleeping on the floor and joined the other in Naruto's twin bed. Or they were sitting on the couch watching television and Naruto was playing with Sasuke's hair, rubbing his neck and ears. Or Sasuke had Naruto up against the kitchen counter, their groins pressed together, and Sasuke was whispering, “I can't believe we're lovers, I can't believe you saved me, I can't believe I have you for my own.”

The idea of Sasuke domesticated, thankful, even affectionate, was an idea no one but Naruto could wrap their head around, but it was the idea they were all fighting for. They knew Naruto could see so much more than they could. He had a hope in him, unmatched in all of their world, and the visions that hope gave him made him run harder, fight longer, and scream louder. The look in his eyes when his best friend, his brother, was mentioned...It was enough to make any jaded jonin, hardened hokage, or tentative teammate believe.

It was enough to bring him back.
