Disclaimer: I only created the storyline.
Their first meeting as friends was awkward to say the least. As Kame sat down at the table across from Pi he couldn’t help but notice the visible stiffness in Pi’s posture. He smiled at Pi, but Pi didn’t smile back. The conversation was awkward and stilted, neither of them wanted to talk about themselves or their past or each other so most of their conversation circulated around gossip that was spreading around the Jimusho and the fact that Ryo and Tatsuya were back together.
“How’s work?” Pi asked Kame and Kame exhaled a sigh of relief, it was the first time the other had shown interest in him since they had broken up.
“Good, we’re getting ready to release a new single and then we’re going to make the PV so we’ll be busy for a little while. What about you?”
Pi picked at his food before replying, “I have a few movie auditions coming up and a few are for projects abroad, but I doubt I’ll get them so I’ll probably just do a few more dramas and a movie for the upcoming year, and of course, work on my new album.”
“Abroad, wow! I didn’t know you wanted to branch out like Jin.” Seeing Pi flinch, Kame immediately knew that he had said the wrong thing and tried to backtrack.
“I mean try to go to the US market.”
“To be honest, I don’t, but management wants me to try at least but it’s a longshot.” Pi replied. Their conversation was light. Pi slowly began to relax around Kame and conversation became easier and Kame was so glad about that. That day, Kame didn’t see much of Pi’s personality either, but they were talking so it was a start.
One day when Pi was in the Jimusho, he stumbled across Jin in the hallway. They found themselves looking the other up and down before Jin started to talk. “I really miss you. I’m sorry about what happened between you and Kame and I’m sorry for trying to interfere.”
Pi shrugged, “You were right, I guess. It wasn’t our time.” Pi said sadly. He was going to leave when their conversation was interrupted by a phone call.
“What?! I’ll be right there!” Pi heard from Jin’s voice that he was panicked and turned back in concern.
“What’s going on?” Pi asked concernedly pushing aside what had happened in the past.
“Meisa went into labor, I need to get to the hospital.” Pi could tell that Jin’s nerves were fried and that he couldn’t well drive himself.
“I’ll take you.” Pi offered and Jin was immediately taken aback by Pi’s gesture of kindness, but maybe that was a testament to their friendship. They rode in silence, with Jin anxiously tapping the window as the seconds seemed to tick by. “Can you hurry up?” Jin snapped, but Pi wasn’t offended, he understood and sped up probably breaking every speeding law in the process.
When Pi arrived Jin immediately rushed into the hospital and Pi parked. As Jin rushed out he told Pi, “Call Kame.”
As Pi walked out of the parking garage, he picked up his phone and dialed Kame.
“Hello?” Kame asked when he answered.
“It’s Pi,” he replied, “Meisa went into labor and Jin wants you here for when the baby comes.”
Pi heard a sigh on the other end but Kame eventually agreed and Pi gave him more detailed information of where they were at in the hospital.
Shortly after while Pi was waiting in the lobby, Kame arrived and sat next to him, “Hey,”
“Hey,” Pi replied. “Do you think it will be a little boy or a little girl?” Kame asked.
“Boy.”
“Really? I think it will be a little girl.” Kame smiled at the thought of Jin being a parent. Only a few months ago he would have been sad and bitter, but this is what Jin always wanted, and he had already given up on his love for Jin.
After a few hours of waiting, Kame felt Pi’s head slump down on his shoulder and when he looked over Pi’s eyes were closed and it looked like he was getting some much needed sleep. Only a few weeks ago this would have been normal to have Pi resting his head on Kame, but now Kame savored the feeling of the extra weight resting on his shoulder and gently ran his fingers through Pi’s hair.
Eventually Jin came out, clothed in the hospital gown with a smile on his face. His eyes twinkled and his smile became even wider when he saw Pi sleeping on Kame. He walked over to them and gently shook Pi’s shoulder to wake him up from his reverie. “It’s a little boy. Do you both want to go and see him?” They both nodded and followed Jin further into the hospital where they entered Meisa’s room.
Inside, Meisa was lying down on the hospital bed looking exhausted but smiling with tears of joy streaming down her face. Kame’s gaze drifted downwards to the bundle that she was holding and smiled at her. Meisa felt relieved at seeing Kame’s expression, there was no malice or hate in his eyes, just happiness for the couple. Meisa offered for Kame to hold the baby and Kame gently cradled him to his chest watching as the baby’s eyes examined him calmly.
“His name is Tomo.” Jin announced and Pi looked up at him stunned. Jin shared a smile at him and Pi smiled back. After the baby was passed to Pi and Pi and Kame both cooed at him, they left the couple in privacy and headed out together.
“I’m really proud of you.” Pi told Kame, he still spoke coolly, but there was compassion underneath what he was saying.
“I’m over him, I told you before. I only love you.” Pi bent his head down and blushed but Kame continued to muse.
“Do you think that they’ll have happiness in the future?” He asked Pi.
“I hope so.”
“Do you think we’ll have happiness in the future?” He turned towards Pi and scruntized his reaction.
“You have no idea how much you hurt me that day, but I’m getting to the point where I can forgive you and we’re on our way to being friends again, so I think there’s hope for us in the future.” Pi replied honestly. It wasn’t a promise, but Kame’s heart leap at the fact that Pi was keeping it a possibility.
He knew he should just accept it, but instead he did something rash. He reached over and grabbed Pi’s hand. As they walked to their respective cars, Kame was sure that Pi would jerk his hand away, but he didn’t and Kame realized that though they still had a long way to go they’d be okay, eventually.
AN: As you probably realize the series is wrapping up shortly, only a few more chapters to go. I was planning on starting the other multichapters, but will wait until this one is finished, sorry about that, plus there are more one shots on the way.
