Nightly Sleep Steps

Jul 11, 2012 20:43

So I woke up at 11am today and felt majorly sleepy by 7pm. Hello again EDS? I then realised I have some really fucked up sleeping steps.

Because of how I get sleepy after being awake for about twelve hours, I have complicated steps before I actually go to bed which aim to keep me awake for as long as possible because I am so loathe to actually sleep.
  1. Feel vaguely sleepy, keep doing whatever I’m doing. Get progressively sleepier over next couple of hours.
  2. When I get too sleepy to actually keep my eyes open, begin to take 30-sec to 5-min naps which involve lying down in front of my laptop briefly, which gives me enough rest to go about 10 more minutes before I need to take another miniscule nap.
  3. Realise that I need to move to my bedroom, and do so.
  4. Once in bedroom, lie down for a 10-15 minute nap because too sleepy to actually get prepared for bed (i.e. brush teeth, etc). Leave lights on to make sure I don’t actually fall asleep for the full 10-12 hours. (This isn’t always foolproof as sometimes my brain just decides that clean teeth aren’t that important and turns the lights off after waking up from this nap, provided that the lightswitch is accessible without standing up.)
  5. After 10-15 min nap, finally get prepared for bed, turn lights off, and try to sleep properly. The irony is that sometimes once I’m actually in the dark and under my covers I feel completely awake and it takes me ages to actually fall asleep. :|

Good God I should probably change my sleeping routine.
