I'm the worst for making snap judgments about people I observe but have never met. I'm most conscious of this while driving. What amuses me is that sometimes I'm actually onto something...
Just before you get to my neighborhood, there is a 4-way stop. Left is an elementary school, straight ahead goes to my neighborhood, and right goes out into a more rural area. Prior to this 4-way stop is a straight stretch at 40 mph for about a mile. My accuracy in predicting who is going to make a right turn into the country is about 90%. Folks who drive below the speed limit or oddly are usually the ones going home to hicksville. Sometimes what they're driving is a helpful clue (a pick-up truck, for example), but the real indicator is driving style. The people who live in the country just don't seem to be in a hurry to go anywhere. I'm always pleased when I guess correctly yet again.
I get the whole slower-pace-of-life thing, but I'd really like to drive at the posted speed at least!
