People in your neighborhood

I thought I'd pop on for a quick update. I was on the bus back from a costly trip to the art store (painting is too damn expensive) when I saw Marian and Vivian waiting at the corner. They're a pair of flashy dressed twin ladies that for some reason everyone in San Francisco knows of. I have no idea who they are or what they do, but they're just two of those local people that you remember whenever you see.

Thinking back at some of the other places I've lived there have been local characters that similarly stick in your mind. In Fairfax there was "paper towel head man" and in Santa Barbara there was the "Elephant Man-like" character who staggered around covered from head to toe in black shrouds. Although in a city like this individuals of that caliber are about a dime a dozen and simply referred to as "neighbors."

My favorite local celebrity is Frank Chu. He is seriously at every major public gathering I attend with his protest sign featuring the "12 Galaxies". How many other cities have a local eccentric with a sign so famous that burger king takes out ad space on the back and bars are named after his slogans? If you haven't seen it, the interview with him is well worth watching.

Anyway, I'll catch you guys in the forums.

PS, check out my beard.
