You thought this shit was dead but aww no, I went Aslan on your ass. Sure it's been almost a year since I updated this sucker but it had been even longer since I upgraded my cell phone. So now, with the help of my new telephone/camera/god knows what else, this site can live on as a photoblog. That is at least for the week or two until I loose interest and neglect it for another year. Anyway, here it goes.
So this Sunday served as a prime example of why I love this city. My favorite days are the ones I head outside with no specific agenda and end up stumbling across things to do. It was a nice day so Margaret and I decided to walk to the beach, and my stomach decided that we should stop by the Shanghi dumpling shop on the way there. The Cliff House is also right there so we grabbed our leftovers and hiked up the hill, the site of my first photo.
On the other side of the hill was Sutro Baths, the ruins of a turn of the century public bath house. These ruins to be exact:
The best thing about this place is you can actually go down and walk around amongst/on it, unlike most places of its sort that have been roped of for stupid safety and preservation. I don't know how, but I managed to convince Margaret to continue walking up the hill when we realized we were right next to Lincoln Park, home of the Legion of Honor and "The Thinker,"
This was my second time at the museum and I enjoyed it a lot more this time around. Their special exhibit was a collection of photographs of spots in the city after the 1906 earthquake juxtaposed with current photos of the same spot. It's kind of surreal moving from the suburbs to a location that has so much tangible history to it. My favorite picture there was this:
It's a painting by Charles Andre Vanloo and is part of a four painting series depicting kids in creative endeavors. The others are sculpture, piano playing, and painting, but kid architects is just damn funny. The last photo I'm gonna post comes from China Beach, the last place we hoofed it to before walking back home and making some bomb-ass tostadas.
I seriously love this town because of days like this, particularly when they come in what should be the middle of winter. I can only hope that in the future I'm quick enough (and inconspicuous enough) to photograph some of the crazy ass shit that goes down around here. Hopefully my future posts (if there is such a thing) well be less of a "I did this, and then this..." and be more of a "hey, check out what this crazy sumbitch is doing in public." Sorry for the lengthy post but hey, I have a year to catch up on. Later.
