So yesterday was the Super Bowl, or so I hear. Given that I don't care for football, and despise Boston sports teams, I opted for an alternative activity. Zac and I decided that we should go out and do something that is normally crowded in hopes that the game would draw the chumps away. Since it was a bright and sunny day, heading out to Alcatraz fit this perfectly.
After rapidly aiding Zac in the construction of his new Ikea furniture and grabbing a clam chowder bread bowl, we caught the last day-time ferry out to the island. Unlike my last trip out (6 years ago) I decided to save some cash and not get the audio tour (The audio tour is actually really good and I'd highly recommend it though) and just walk around The Rock. A stroke of inspiration on the ferry ride out, prompted me to begin composing an "Alcatraz Playlist" on my IPOD. Let me just say that the Clash's "Police and Thieves" and Megadeth's "Captive Honour" are ideal choices when walking around a max security penitentiary.
The views from Alcatraz are pretty sweet (as the audio tour tells you like every five seconds if I remember correctly. "It's this view of freedom that tormented the prisoners...") Here is a little sample:
And kids, Next time you're at In And Out be sure to ask for "well done" fries. Oh my god, I'd always heard that it was an option but never ordered it until yesterday. It makes their undercooked potato sticks into normal fries. Goddamn, just typing this makes me want a Double Double Animal Style with a side of well done fries.
